Job Introduction

We’re recruiting a part-time Sheltered Housing Officer to join our Adult Services team at Milton Keynes City Council. Our Sheltered Housing team delivers specialist housing management services to support older and vulnerable residents to live safely, independently, and with dignity in their homes.

We work closely with internal services and partner agencies to manage tenancies, promote wellbeing, and respond proactively to risks, safeguarding concerns, and low-level anti-social behaviour.

The team plays a vital role in sustaining tenancies and ensuring residents can access the right support at the right time, while maintaining safe, compliant, and well-managed schemes. This work is essential to Milton Keynes City Council as it protects residents’ independence, reduces demand on health and care services, and helps create safe, supportive communities.

At Milton Keynes City Council, we’re responsible for delivering over two hundred services to our residents and are committed to creating cleaner, safer communities and supporting people to thrive. We work together as one council, building strong partnerships and focusing on outcomes that make a difference to people’s daily lives.

In this role, you will deliver targeted housing management across our sheltered schemes, supporting residents to maintain their tenancies and live independently. You will work directly with residents, colleagues and partners to manage risks, respond to concerns and ensure safe and well-managed environments.

Role Responsibilities
  • Deliver targeted and intensive housing management support to residents to help them manage their homes and sustain their tenancies.

Carry out sheltered housing assessments and support the allocation process including viewings, lettings and end of tenancy arrangements.

  • Work proactively with residents and act as a liaison between services such as neighbourhood teams, income collection and repairs, as well as external agencies.

  • Respond to nuisance and low-level anti-social behaviour, working with colleagues to manage risks and escalate concerns where needed.

  • Support residents to remain independent by identifying solutions and connecting them with appropriate support services and partners.

  • Ensure safety and compliance responsibilities are met, maintaining accurate records and contributing to well-managed schemes.

  • Oversee contractors and suppliers working within schemes to ensure safety and quality of the environment.

Ideal Candidate
  • A relevant housing or tenancy-related qualification, or equivalent experience demonstrating professional competence in housing management.
  • Demonstrates a calm and practical approach when supporting residents with a wide range of needs and situations.
  • Brings a strong understanding of tenancy management and housing legislation, including awareness of regulatory requirements.
  • Shows confidence in assessing and managing risk, using sound judgement and professional curiosity in day-to-day work.
  • Communicates clearly and adapts their style to suit different individuals and situations.
  • Takes ownership of their work, prioritising tasks and working effectively within agreed policies and procedures.
  • Is flexible and able to travel across Milton Keynes to support different sheltered housing schemes.

As part of the pre-employment checks, should you be offered the role, we’ll carry out an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, (unless you are currently registered with the DBS Update Service).
