Why join us?

You will be part of a service designed to provide a highly responsive, professional and credible confidential support service for the Council’s workforce.

The role contributes directly to the Council’s Health and Wellbeing Strategy and wider health-related functions, helping to improve wellbeing and alleviate distress.

You will also work within a framework of established core values and behaviours, contributing to organisational effectiveness and service quality.

About the role

As an Employee Support Counsellor, you will deliver professional counselling and support services to employees, helping them achieve their objectives while maintaining wellbeing.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing a professional counselling caseload aligned with your skills and experience.
  • Supporting service evaluation and development, including maintaining records, analysing outcomes and contributing to service planning.
  • Confidently delivering content both face to face and remotely via Teams/Phone.
  • Promoting and supporting the development of flexible and responsive wellbeing services.
  • Building effective working relationships with colleagues, stakeholders and multi‑professional teams.
  • Contributing to project delivery, policy development and the use of HR data and analytics.
  • Acting as a role model for the Council’s values, culture and professional counselling standards.

The role also supports the integration of counselling services within the Council’s overall Health and Wellbeing Strategy.

You will have:

  • Thorough knowledge of counselling practice supported by BACP standards and a commitment to maintaining high clinical practice through supervision and adherence to the BACP Code of Practice.
  • Membership of BACP, with accreditation or working towards it, and competence at Diploma level or equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust, engage others and work collaboratively across multi‑professional settings.
  • The ability to manage workloads effectively, prioritise tasks and remain calm in challenging situations.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Windows and Office.
  • Experience in delivering presentations or webinars on wellbeing topics (desirable).

You should also be confident in facilitating group sessions and presenting on wellbeing topics, contributing to the promotion of staff wellbeing in the workplace.

  • Grade: G6 (see pay policy for value)
  • Hours: 22.2 per week (preferably Tuesday, Thursday and Friday - flexibility available)
  • Location: Lincolnshire County Council - HR Services, Children’s Services Directorate
