Support Time and Recovery Worker 18.5 hours per week.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Support Time and Recovery Worker to join our busy Adult Autism Team across the BCP locality.

What we’re looking for:

We are looking for a compassionate and motivated Support Time and Recovery (STR) Worker to join our Adult Autism Team.

In this role, you will work directly with autistic adults to provide person-centred, strengths-based support that promotes independence, wellbeing, and inclusion. You will support individuals in developing practical life skills, building confidence, and achieving their personal outcomes using a recovery-focused approach.

You will work closely with colleagues across Adult Social Care, health services, and partner organisations to ensure coordinated and effective support.

Applicants must have recent experience of working in an adult social care setting that involves direct contact with members of the public. Also, to have knowledge of working with people with Autism and/or be passionate about improving the lives of people with Autism.

To hold a valid driving licence and have access to a car.

  • Have experience supporting adults with autism, learning disabilities, mental health needs, or similar
  • Be able to engage and motivate individuals in a person-centred and respectful way
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Understand strengths-based and recovery-focused approaches
  • Be able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Be organised, flexible, and committed to delivering high-quality support

What You Can Expect to be Doing

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver practical and emotional support to adults with autism in the community
  • Work with individuals to identify goals and develop personalised support plans
  • Support the development of daily living skills, routines, and independence
  • Use structured conversations to promote motivation and positive outcomes
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with individuals, families, and carers
  • Work collaboratively with social workers, health professionals, and partner agencies
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to reviews and care planning processes
  • Ensure safeguarding, dignity, and person-centred practice are upheld at all times


You will be undertaking the Three Conversations Model, which focuses on the needs of BCP residents aged 18 and over with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Condition and their careers.

When you join this team, you will be working across Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole. You will be based at Bournemouth Civic Centre, with the ability to work flexibly across locations in the BCP area and to work from home.

You will support and enable people to minimise dependence and maximise independence through strength-based, self-directed support, commissioning, monitoring, and reviewing to meet the individuals' identified goals.


Joining Our Team

The specialist team is made up of a Service Manager, a Team Manager, Three Qualified Social Workers and three Adult Social Care Practitioners. We work closely with our Learning Disability, Preparing for Adulthood and Community Mental Health teams to ensure the holistic needs of our adults are met.

BCP Council has a number of Social Work teams that operate across all specialist areas, including Adults and Older People’s Mental Health, Preparing for Adulthood Services, Learning Disability Services, Autism services, Forensic, Assertive Outreach and Community Rehabilitation Teams. Given the nature of this role, applicants must hold the necessary professional qualification and be registered with Social Work England to practice as a Social Worker in the UK.

The successful candidate will need to have demonstrable experience in working within a specialist service with knowledge of the application of the Care Act.
