Job Introduction

Student Engagement Programme Tutor (Scale 5, Term Time Only + 10 PD Days pro rata)

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Student Engagement Programme (SEP) Tutor to join our team. This rewarding role involves supporting the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning for pupils who require additional engagement and support, including those with SEND, SEMH needs, or who are disengaged from mainstream education. Working closely with Lead Tutors, Learning Coordinators and senior staff, you will play a key role in planning, delivering and evaluating learning activities that enable students to achieve their full potential.

As an SEP Tutor, you will take responsibility for delivering structured learning to individuals and small groups, developing and implementing Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), and monitoring student progress through effective assessment strategies. You will create a positive and inclusive learning environment, acting as a strong role model while supporting pupils to build confidence, independence and resilience. Your ability to adapt learning approaches, manage behaviour constructively, and foster meaningful engagement will be central to success in this role.

You will also contribute to the wider development of the programme by supporting curriculum delivery, using creative approaches to remove barriers to learning, and working collaboratively with colleagues, parents, schools and external agencies. The role requires excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to use ICT effectively to enhance learning and track progress. There will be opportunities to lead on specialist areas and share expertise across the team.

This is a highly rewarding yet challenging position, requiring resilience, initiative and a strong commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing. You will be working with young people who may present complex needs, so the ability to manage behaviour, de-escalate situations and support emotional wellbeing is essential. In return, you will be part of a supportive and collaborative environment with opportunities for professional development and career progression.

The successful candidate will have experience working with children in a learning environment, ideally with vulnerable or hard-to-reach pupils at Key Stage 2, 3 and 4. Strong literacy and numeracy skills are essential, alongside relevant qualifications or equivalent experience. A passion for supporting young people, excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team are key to this role.

We warmly encourage prospective applicants to arrange a visit to see the Student Engagement Programme before applying. To arrange a visit or for an informal discussion about the role, please contact Millie and/or Louise on 01952 567 542 millie.barnley@telford.gov.uk louise.bartholomew@telford.gov.uk
