Concierge Officer

Concierge Officer

Housing
£30,654 - £32,907 per year

Why Southwark?

Southwark is one of London’s most dynamic and diverse boroughs - a place of energy, creativity, and ambition. We’re proud of our commitment to fairness, equality and opportunity, and we’re working every day to make Southwark a place where everyone can thrive.

Southwark is a dynamic, diverse and ambitious borough, and our Licensing Service plays a vital role in supporting safe communities, vibrant businesses and a thriving night-time economy. We are looking for an organised, customer-focused Unit Support Officer to join our Licensing team and help deliver a high-quality, responsive service to residents, businesses and partners.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Concierge Officer, you will be the first point of contact for residents and visitors, providing excellent customer service while helping to maintain a safe and secure living environment. You will be based on-site, supporting the day-to-day management of residential buildings through monitoring security systems, carrying out patrols and reporting repairs, nuisance and anti-social behaviour.

This is a varied, hands-on role that requires a calm, professional approach and the ability to work independently while supporting the wider housing team.

You will:

  • Welcome and assist residents and visitors, responding to enquiries and service requests in a professional and helpful manner.
  • Control access to buildings, monitor entry phone systems and CCTV, and ensure unauthorised access is prevented.
  • Carry out daily patrols of designated areas, identifying repairs, health and safety issues, nuisance or anti-social behaviour and reporting these promptly.
  • Monitor and report maintenance issues to ensure timely resolution and support the effective management of properties.
  • Maintain accurate incident logs, records and basic reports as required.
  • Carry out daily checks of communal areas, emergency lighting, fire doors, exits and lifts, taking appropriate action where necessary.
  • Respond calmly and effectively to emergencies, including supporting evacuations and contacting emergency services when required.
  • Provide a visible, approachable presence that promotes safety, reassurance and positive relationships with residents.

What We're Looking For

You will bring:

  • Experience in a customer-facing role, ideally within housing, security, caretaking or reception services.
  • An understanding of security, health and safety and equal opportunities in service delivery.
  • The ability to deal confidently, politely and assertively with members of the public.
  • Basic IT skills and the ability to accurately record information and produce simple written reports.
  • The ability to work independently in a remote setting with minimal day-to-day supervision.
  • Practical skills or experience in minor repairs and estate upkeep (desirable).

Working arrangements

  • Shift-based working, including early mornings, evenings and nights (6am–3pm / 3pm–12am).
  • Minimum of 36 hours per week in line with service needs.
  • Uniform provided by Southwark Council.
  • Flexibility to rotate to other suitable roles of an equivalent grade where required.

At Southwark we are committed to making our borough just and fair and are taking positive action to tackle inequalities. Our residents and communities are our greatest asset and the passion we have for Southwark is shared by millions of Londoners who enjoy our outstanding cultural offer, use our hospitals and attend our universities. Our refreshed borough plan and focus on Southwark Stands Together, (which is our work with Southwark’s communities and the council’s staff to tackle racism, injustice and inequality) underpins all that we do.
