Salary: £26,832 - £28,146 per annum (pro-rata for part-time) (Pay award pending)

Working Hours: Full-time - 37 hours per week

Contract Type: Permanent

About the Role

We are seeking a highly organised and customer-focused School Admissions Officer to join our team and play a key role in delivering a customer friendly, efficient, and compliant school admission service. In this role, you will be responsible for guiding families through the process of applying and attaining a school place successfully, ensuring they receive clear, timely, and accurate information at every stage.

You will manage general enquiries, process school applications, while maintaining accurate data to help you make the correct decisions. You will work closely with parents/carers, school staff, other agencies and other local authorities to support fair and transparent outcomes. This includes both statutory school admissions, and non-statutory in‑year admissions, it will also include supporting where necessary the School Appeals Team.

Attention to detail is essential, as you will be responsible for maintaining accurate records, producing reports, and ensuring all activity aligns with statutory requirements as set out in the School Admissions Code 2021 and local school admission policies. This is a fast-paced role that requires strong communication skills, empathy, and the ability to manage competing deadlines.

About You

To apply for this post, you must be able to evidence in your application how you meet the following criteria:

  • Education to GCSE ‘C’ or equivalent including English Language and Mathematics, or equivalent NVQ level in administration or relevant excellent customer care experience. Excellent spelling and grammar are essential to this role
  • Knowledge and experience of administrative processes and systems that operates in a legal and regulatory framework including a strong understanding of the school admissions code
  • Competent standard of IT skills including software packages (e.g. Microsoft Office), managing spreadsheets and keeping records up to date
  • The ability to confidently plan, organise, prioritise your own workloads to meet tight time scales, with good attention to detail, demonstrable experience of working as part of an established team and be able to work independently
  • Good interpersonal, communication and people management skills is vital in this role especially during challenging circumstances, where remaining calm and positive will be essential in demonstrating excellent empathetic skills when handling complex queries
  • Experience of call handling and a proven ability to work effectively with families using a supportive yet assertive approach.
  • Understanding the need and ability to maintain confidentiality
