
Waste Collection Driver Loader
About the role
We are seeking a committed and safety-conscious Waste Collections Driver to join our Waste and Recycling Service.

As a key member of the collection team, you will be responsible for the safe operation of waste and recycling vehicles while ensuring the efficient collection and disposal of residual waste and recyclable materials from residential, commercial and industrial premises across the district. You will play an important role in delivering a reliable and customer-focused service, ensuring collections are completed safely, on time, and to the highest standards.
The successful candidate will have excellent driving skills, a strong understanding of health and safety requirements, and a commitment to providing outstanding service to residents and businesses. You will also support crew members, maintain accurate records, and help promote the Council's reputation for professionalism, environmental responsibility, and service excellence.
You will be required to work across multiple depots, Chelveston, Wellingborough, Corby and Kettering
What will you be doing?
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate and control allocated waste and recycling collection vehicles in accordance with road traffic legislation and Council procedures.
- Carry out daily vehicle inspections, report defects, and ensure vehicles are maintained in a clean and roadworthy condition.
- Follow designated collection routes and utilise in-cab technology to deliver efficient collection services.
- Maintain accurate tachograph records and operational documentation.
- Record and report collection issues, contamination incidents, access problems, and other service-related matters.
- Assist with the collection and loading of waste and recycling receptacles when required.
- Ensure all collections are completed safely, efficiently, and to agreed service standards.
- Respond professionally to residents and businesses, providing a high-quality customer experience.
- Adhere to all health and safety procedures, risk assessments, and personal protective equipment requirements.
- Assist in clearing waste spillages and maintaining clean working environments.
- Comply with site rules and traffic management procedures at depots and waste transfer or disposal facilities.
- Support the delivery of collection containers, information leaflets, and promotional materials.
- Complete all required paperwork and electronic reporting accurately and on time.
- Assist with the induction and support of new employees and agency workers.
- Participate in training and development activities to maintain skills and service knowledge.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and the ongoing development of the service.

About you
- Experience of working in an outdoor environment and of undertaking a range of manual tasks.
- Two years driving experience.
- Full UK Class C driving licence, tachograph and up to date Driver CPC qualification
- Understanding of Health and Safety systems including manual handling and risk assessments and safe Working Procedures
- Knowledge of Road Traffic Acts & Regulations
- Ability to work outdoors in all weathers.
- Physically fit; (job can require walking up to 12 miles per day). Ability to walk, bend, kneel and stand for long periods of time and perform heavy lifting if needed.
