East Herts council are looking for an experienced and motivated Technical Group Accountant.

This is a great opportunity to lead on specialist accounting areas, to deliver high quality financial reporting and support key functions of the organisation.

We are seeking a positive, proactive and self motivated individual to join the East Herts Council finance team.

What will you be doing?

  • Lead on collection Fund Accounting (Council Tax and Business Rates) to include in year monitoring and year end reconciliation
  • Produce the Councils annual Statement of Accounts, including core statements and notes to the accounts in line with Statutory deadlines, to include liaison with internal and external auditors.
  • collaborating with colleagues throughout the business to deliver a high standard of financial reposting, including technical financial advice.
  • using big picture thinking to improve EHC’s processes and systems
  • Manage and support staff within the team, providing ongoing support and guidance

About you

As an ideal candidate, you will have:

  • a recognised CCAB qualification and relevant experience and an excellent working knowledge of the relevant legislation and regulations relating to local government finance
  • strong understanding of statutory accounting and financial reporting, with experience of closing and producing the local authority statement of accounts
  • experience within a busy finance team and the ability to work well under pressure and organise your time efficiently ,
  • experienced using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
  • enthusiastic and passionate about working in local government
  • excellent communication skills, excellent attention to detail
  • experience of maintaining a fixed asset register, including a good knowledge of appropriate accounting standards
