    We have an exciting opportunity to join Specialist Moving and Handling Team within West Northamptonshire Council. We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly skilled Occupational Therapist with substantial expertise in moving and handling, who will provide clinical leadership and drive the continued development of our specialist service.

    What will you be doing?

    In this rewarding role, you’ll support individuals to regain and maintain their independence at home, making a real difference to people’s daily lives.

    • Undertake holistic assessments to support individuals, families, and both formal and informal carers with the moving and handling of people.
    • Manage a varied caseload, planning and delivering effective, outcome-focused interventions.
    • Develop and implement person-centred support plans that promote independence and wellbeing.
    • Work closely with formal and informal care providers to ensure interventions are delivered safely, effectively, and in line with best practice.
    • Communicate effectively with individuals, families, carers, and professionals, providing regular updates and feedback.
    • Complete clear, accurate, and timely case notes, assessments, and reports in line with service requirements and professional standards.
    • Assess for and recommend appropriate equipment and adaptations, arranging provision and providing guidance on safe and effective use.
    • Support individuals to improve their independence, confidence, and safety within their home environment.
    • Provide specialist moving and handling advice and guidance to colleagues, care providers, and partner agencies.
    • Contribute to the development of best practice, service improvements, and high-quality outcomes across the Specialist Moving and Handling Team.

    37 hours per week:
    Monday to Thursday: 8:30am – 4:30pm
    Friday: 8:30am – 4:00pm

    These hours are indicative, and flexibility will be required to meet the needs of the service.

    About you

    This is an excellent opportunity for an Occupational Therapist who enjoys collaborative working, values person-centred practice and is committed to achieving positive outcomes.

    You'll be joining a supportive and well-regarded team, with opportunities to:

    • Develop specialist skills in moving and handling
    • Support Occupational Therapy students on placement
    • Contribute to service development and continuous improvement

    To Be Successful, You Will:

    • Hold current HCPC registration and a recognised Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
    • Have experience in moving and handling, including writing moving and handling plans and the provision of equipment and adaptations.
    • Be confident undertaking moving and handling assessments and Mental Capacity Assessments.
    • Demonstrate sound professional judgement, including in complex situations.
    • Have strong communication and team-working skills.
    • Be able to effectively manage a varied caseload and prioritise competing demands.

    As This Role Involves Working Across Home, Office and Community Settings, You Must Have:

    • The candidate has confirmed their ability to commit to the role until the end date of 22 July 2027.
    • A full driving licence and access to a vehicle.
    • The ability to travel across West Northamptonshire.

    We'd Love to Hear From You If You Also Have Experience In:

    • Supporting, supervising, or mentoring students and junior staff.
    • Delivering training to health and social care professionals.
    • Service development, audit activity, and quality improvement initiatives.
    • Working within multidisciplinary teams and contributing to professional forums, research, or best practice networks.
