The Council’s Street Care Service is responsible for the cleanliness of the Borough of Chelmsford. This is a wide ranging Service geared toward improving the quality of the environment by improving litter standards, removing the nuisance created by fly-tipping, graffiti and fly-posting and improving feelings of safety and security to create a sense&nbsp;of care and respect for the place in which people live, work and visit.
A key role in these activities is the operation of our fleet of mechanised road sweepers which are responsible for dealing with over 1300km of roadways. We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to play a key role in helping us ensure that the infrastructure of the borough that the Council is responsible for, is kept to the best standard possible.
Based at our Freighter House depot in Springfield, the post holder would normally be expected to work the following hours at 37 hours per week: Monday to Thursday 06:00am – 2:00pm, Friday 06:00am to 1:30pm
It should be noted however that some flexibility will be required, including occasional early or later starts, or the requirement to work on a week-end or bank holiday.

As a Round Leader of a small crew, you will have good communication and customer service skills to enable you to engage with colleagues and members of the public in a polite and professional manner. You must be a team player, quick learner and able to carry out a range of duties including: Use of the vehicles in cab devices, &nbsp;moving, handling and loading of refuse , recycling, garden and food waste. You will be expected to to work with minimum supervision.&nbsp; &nbsp; The work involves driving, operating machinery and heavy manual labour therefore you must be physically fit and mobile.&nbsp; Experience of rear-steer vehicles would be advantageous. A willingness to train and use a wide variety of vehicles and equipment is essential Essential Qualifications: The role will involve safely driving HGVs and other Council vehicles. Hertsmere Borough Council are looking for Refuse/ Recycling Loaders, to join our efficient street cleansing, waste and recycling collection service within and around Hertsmere.
The job involves collecting all types of refuse and recycling waste, from litter bins, residential bins and trade bins, and loading them into the refuse vehicle.&nbsp; You will need to have excellent fitness levels and be capable of walking for 8 to 12 miles per day.
You will need proven experience of heavy manual work involving lifting, and be capable of pulling and emptying refuse bins.&nbsp; You should have a customer service approach to service delivery, communicating positively and working efficiently in a team.&nbsp; You should be self-motivated and able to work without close supervision.
