An early priority for the successful candidate will be to develop and embed the Councils’ approach to Project Management. The team’s annual delivery plan and Capital Delivery Plan Projects vary from housing, carbon reduction programmes, coastal protection and waste management.
You should be able to demonstrate recent, significant project management experience (e.g. design a brief, procurement, VFM assessments, business cases and report writing) and the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.&nbsp; Your background could vary from RICS (building surveyor), Civil Engineering or CIOB but real-world experience is just as important.

Due to the success of the inspections team in generating additional income for South Hams and West Devon, we are looking to recruit an additional Revenues&nbsp;Inspections Officer.
The postholder will carry out inspections of domestic and commercial properties to ensure our Council Tax and Business Rates records are accurate, income is maximised and discounts,&nbsp;reliefs and exemptions are awarded in accordance with legislation and Council policy.
You will be monitoring new build properties, issuing completion notices and making requests to the Valuation Office Agency for properties to be brought into the Valuation and Rating Lists.
A committed team player who can work on their own initiative, you will also demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail and have excellent customer care skills.
Experience of using NEC and Information at Work software is desirable, however if you have experience of other software we will provide you with full training and support.
Please note the successful candidate will require a satisfactory basic DBS check.
A driving licence and access to a vehicle is also required.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with the Planning Business Support Team whilst undertaking and successfully completing an administrative based Level 3 apprenticeship programme with the Council and local college.&nbsp; You will form part of a group of Business Support Officers supporting delivery of the Council’s corporate priorities&nbsp;within the Planning Service.&nbsp; The role will start by responding to correspondence and enquiries in a timely manner and will progress with added duties and responsibilities.&nbsp; Working primarily from a combination of home and Follaton House, Totnes you will need to be organised, be able to work on your own initiative as well as part of the team and have the ability to switch between tasks, sometimes at short notice, in order to meet the demands of the service. &nbsp;With support from the Team Leader, Supervisor and the rest of the team, you will be providing guidance and updates to applicants, developers, agents and Councillors, as well as processing documents relating to planning applications. The successful applicant will be customer focused, with excellent IT skills preferably with experience of dealing with a wide range of customers.&nbsp; You will also need excellent communication skills both in writing and over the telephone, have good attention to detail and be confident and self-motivated with managing your own workload.&nbsp; You will need a good standard of general education including GCSE at grade 4/C or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths. &nbsp;
This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable administrative experience while contributing to our planning objectives. You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our services.

Successful candidates will deal with all aspects&nbsp;of Council Tax, Benefits and Business Rates working in accordance with statutory regulations and/or discretionary policies.
The role will be varied as you will be dealing with a wide variety of people and ICT systems, being responsible for data input and the processing of information, providing advice and ensuring residents receive accurate bills and correct benefit payments.
You will work for both South Hams District Council and West Devon Borough Council.&nbsp; You will be supported in the workplace by other team members and your mentor, at first in office at either our Tavistock or Totnes offices, and then working from home, with the use of Microsoft teams with the occasional requirement to attend in office meetings.
Alongside your role in the Revenues and Benefits team you will be working to complete the Level 4 Revenues and Welfare Benefits Practitioner Apprenticeship qualification through the Institute of Revenues, Rating and Valuation (IRRV). On successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will also be awarded the Certificate of Local Taxation, Revenues and Welfare Benefits (Tech IRRV).
The apprenticeship will take approximately 18 months to complete through a blended approach combining virtual training days, online webinars, work shadowing and workplace mentoring.
What we need from you:
<ul>
<li>A good standard of education to GCSE level including minimum Grade C/4 in English and Mathematics or equivalent.</li>
<li>A ‘can-do’ attitude and eager to learn.</li>
<li>Ability to work accurately and quickly with high attention to detail.</li>
<li>Excellent communication skills both on the telephone and in writing.</li>
<li>Good with numbers and proficient in the use of ICT systems.</li>
</ul>
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, there may be an opportunity to secure permanent employment in the Revenues and Benefits team.
A satisfactory basic disclosure check and check of employment history will be required before appointment.
