 The role is based within the Business Development Team who provides key support to these front line services and acts as a conduit between the services and Newham’s Corporate ServicesAbout the RoleThe post holder will work closely with the Business and Finance Manager on continual service delivery and improvements throughout the Repairs and Maintenance Service. The responsibilities or steps in performance management process vary broadly depending on the emphasis of performance efforts and the individual carrying it out.&nbsp;&nbsp;The post holder will also be responsible for providing relevant and timely advice to Directors and their Service Management Teams in their strategic decision making, and ensuring they receive effective and timely support and advice on all financial matters related to the development of RMS service strategies, service plans and service delivery.&nbsp;This role is suited to someone who likes to continuously review and improve processes, learning from feedback and best practise requirements. <li>Checking, verifying and processing all types of claims for Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction and free school meals, ensuring the correct calculation and payment of benefit.</li>
<li>To have and maintain an up to date knowledge of relevant legislation in order to ensure the accurate and efficient processing and payment of claims, minimising overpayments of benefit as a result.</li>
<li>Check documentation provided by claimants for validity, and have the ability to identify fraudulent and altered documents.</li>
<li>Be able to explain the Council and Government schemes in a clear and understanding way in person, over the telephone or in writing to customers.</li>
<li>At all times to deal efficiently and sympathetically with sometimes difficult, aged or distressed customers.</li>
</ul> About YouRequired essential experience/ qualifications/ skills and abilities<ul>
<li>Minimum 18 months Housing Benefit experience which must be within the last 3 years</li>
<li>Experience of working on a front line customer service</li>
<li>Able to understand Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction Regulations to ensure the prompt and accurate assessments and payment of Benefits.</li>
<li>Able to follow set procedures and adapt quickly to new or changed legislation or&nbsp; procedures&nbsp;</li>
<li>Able to work as part of a team while maintaining and prioritising your own workload.</li>
<li>Able to compose replies to correspondence or customer enquiries regarding Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction or free school meal matters</li>
