The Role
We have an exciting opportunity to join our Planning Services Team. You will be focussing mainly on less complex enforcement cases with an aim to resolving and closing those cases. With excellent communication skills you’ll be the first point of contact with the Council, reflecting our high standards for protecting the environment and conserving the historic character of the Borough.
You will not need to have direct planning enforcement experience, but we’d love to hear from you if you feel you have the skills and experience to carry out site investigations, review policies and procedures and project manage your work in an efficient way to completion. Core to this role will be a passion for making the town the best it can be.

Who are you?
What we are looking for is someone with a passion for the built environment, what your town looks like and how it benefits the community. You will be able to visit sites using your own means of transport, to assess alleged breaches of planning control, focussing on Grotbuster associated work. You will be able to clearly communicate your on-site assessments and conclusions both verbally and through accurate and concise letters. You will be comfortable in dealing with customers face to face and via correspondence.&nbsp; You’ll have the ability to work under your own initiative making recommendations, with the support of your line manager, regarding your enforcement cases. You will be able to project manage your work to meet Council targets. You will be able to work in difficult, pressured and potentially confrontational situations and remain calm.
You’ll have excellent communication and customer-care skills, the ability to work flexibly, as part of a busy and high performing team.

Enforcement Officer (6-Months FTC)

We are looking for someone to join our Place Protection team, working with a variety of council service areas, to help improve the feelings of safety within our community and to ensure compliance is monitored and maintained.&nbsp;This involves engagement with members of the public, partners, and other services, as part of a high profiled uniformed patrol.The role will contribute towards tackling antisocial behaviour, investigate and resolve enviro-crimes (fly-tipping, graffiti, un-taxed or abandon vehicles etc), homelessness related issues and parking contraventions within council owned car parks.&nbsp;Early intervention and engagement are required in certain situations, in addition to the use of delegated powers.&nbsp;The officers will need to adhere to local policies and legal guidance, to gather, handle and prepare evidence for certain offences, by obtaining photographs, compiling witness statements, conducting interviews, including interviews under caution. Where appropriate to prepare for and/or attend court.&nbsp;Liaising with both internal colleagues and external partnerships such as the Police, housing associations, other government bodies etc, is also required.<h4>The ideal Candidate</h4>The successful candidate must demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong customer service background.&nbsp;They must be friendly, enthusiastic, hardworking and a team player, to provide a high-quality service in a flexible manner.&nbsp;Being able to take responsibility of their own workload is essential in addition to good literacy, numeracy, and IT skills. Full training, (including CSAS Accreditation), uniform and equipment is provided.&nbsp;The successful candidate will be required to undergo a DBS check.Applicants must hold a full UK driving licence.&nbsp;You will be required to work an average of 37 hours per week including weekends, on a rota basis, covering the hours of 7am – 9pm Monday – Sunday. We are seeking an ambitious individual to help deal with the most interesting and complex Major projects and Breaches of planning to shape and protect our charming historic towns, villages and countryside. Our Emerging Plan is nearing adoption and our new Local Enforcement Plan has just been endorsed by Members and so we are looking for an officer to help deliver improvements to our service.
The successful candidate will ideally have a few years of experience in a Local Authority based Enforcement role and have experience of a variety of development types, negotiating to remedy, serving Enforcement Notices and giving evidence.
