Job Title: Environmental Health Apprentice
Location of work: Town Hall /Hybrid working (Homeworking)

About the Role
This is a unique opportunity to study for a degree while earning a salary and gaining practical skills by working as a member of the Environmental Health Team. You will study with the University of Middlesex on their Environmental Health (Apprenticeship) BSc (Honours) course commencing September 2025, and on days when not attending taught classes, will work in the team supporting all the environmental health functions, food safety, health and safety at work, public health, housing and pollution.
Building on the taught knowledge of the degree, you will develop the practical skills of an Environmental Health Practitioner, while learning from and supporting experienced professionals. Upon successful completion of the 4-year degree programme, you would have the opportunity to gain professional status as an Environmental Health Practitioner.

This role is in the Housing Strategy and Policy team, which is responsible for developing the Mayor’s housing policies. The remit of the Housing Strategy and Policy team covers a broad range of policy areas including new supply, homelessness, rough sleeping, building safety and private rented sector policy. In this post you will be working alongside colleagues to formulate policy to deliver on the Mayor’s priorities and to ensure these policies are informed by sound evidence.

 About the role&nbsp;</h2>
The position is responsible for a priority Mayoral area, leading on policy to support the supply of new homes, in particular through the Mayor’s housing funding programmes. Ideally you will have experience working in this area, but if not, you’ll be able to evidence a track record of getting to grips with new policy briefs and stakeholders quickly. You’ll be responsible for helping to implement the Mayor’s 2024 election manifesto, tackling London’s housing crisis through exciting projects and providing expert advice and guidance. The successful candidate will manage a small team of senior policy officers and officers. You will work closely with officers across London boroughs and social housing providers as well as officials at the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government. About the role
Sitting in the wider Funding Policy and Systems Team, the role will support the Funding Policy side of the team to ensure that the Adult Skills Fund (ASF) allocations are timely and accurate, lead the ASF reconciliation end of year process and any business growth processes stemming. The successful candidate will support the Senior Skills Funding Policy Manager in drafting Mayoral Board papers, ASF guidance documents such as the ASF Funding Rules and Rates and the design and successful management of any ASF competitive grant-award process.
What your day will look like

<li>Lead work to ensure that the ASF funds are allocated in a timely and accurate manner, lead on annual ASF reconciliation process and manage any subsequent business growth funding process.</li>

We are seeking a talented individual to join the team responsible for tackling air pollution and reducing transport emissions in the capital. You will join at an exciting time as take forward projects and policies to reduce exposure to air pollution such as rolling out air filters to schools, reducing emissions from construction and new developments, and supporting the boroughs and Transport for London to deliver electric vehicle infrastructure.
Reporting to a Principal Policy and Programme Officer, you’ll be responsible for the management of a portfolio of air quality work.
Excellent organisational, use of evidence, and problem-solving skills will be crucial to your success. You’ll need to have experience of delivering complex projects or programmes and be able to demonstrate your ability to communicate and influence. The Directorate is also responsible for regeneration (where the programme is not housing led), enterprise, growth, capital projects and design work.
<h2>About the team</h2>
The domestic decarbonisation team, within the GLA’s Environment and Energy Unit, is responsible for delivering the Mayor’s objective to accelerate and upscale housing retrofit in London in partnership with London Councils. boroughs, housing associations and other key partners.&nbsp;A&nbsp;new joint endeavour of the GLA and London Councils, Warmer Homes London, has been established to accelerate the pace and scale of quality retrofit across the capital. The team will manage the first phase of the Warm Homes Local Grant programme before it transitions into Warmer Homes London in 2026.
<h2>About the role</h2>
We are looking for someone who is an experienced leader with a proven track record of managing teams well to create a positive, inclusive and high-performing culture. You will have a strong knowledge of setting up and delivering complex capital programmes in the built environment and an ability to quickly learn about the home energy efficiency sector. You will have excellent written and oral communication skills, a well-informed and creative approach to problem-solving, strong budget management skills, the ability to operate in a busy and complex political environment and experience of working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders.
The postholder will lead on the development and delivery of domestic decarbonisation projects, in order to achieve desired outputs within agree timeframes, within budget, to specification and operational standards Including wider strategic policy to delivery work not limited to integrated settlement.&nbsp;
On behalf of the GLA, you will help shape a brand new organisation: Warmer Homes London. We are at the start of our critical journey towards delivering improvements to London’s homes to make them more affordable to heat and more energy efficient for the environment.
<h2>What your day will look like</h2>

<li>Lead and manage a team of professional policy to deliver managers responsible for developing and implementing domestic decarbonisation programmes</li>
<li>Provide a link between the team and the Head of Energy, Assistant Director of Environment/Head of Energy, ensuring effective communication of objectives and work programmes.</li>
<li>Oversee delivery of the Warmer Homes Local Grant scheme, ensuring it is set up and delivered on time, within budget and in line with expected outputs</li>
<li>Monitor regional, national or international initiatives and best practice in environmental and climate change fields to keep the GLA’s thinking and work abreast of latest developments.</li>
<li>Provide advice and technical support to the Mayor, Deputy Mayors, Mayoral Advisers, senior managers and Assembly Members on matters within the area of responsibility.</li>
<li>Prepare and present reports, briefs and recommendations on key issues and actions to the Assistant Director and Executive Directors, to facilitate executive understanding and decision making.</li>
<li>Lead or contribute to the development of domestic decarbonisation projects either delivered directly or with external partners, developers, boroughs councils or other agencies.&nbsp;</li>

<h4> Job Description </h4>Overview We are seeking to recruit an Assistant Principal Lawyer for the Employment, Adults social care and Education Team at HB Public Law (HBPL) to advise in respect of all employment matters.You will undertake varied, high-quality work with like-minded and supportive colleagues who are committed to public service and excellent client care.HBPL is an innovative and ambitious Lexcel-accredited legal service serving several local authority clients, schools, and other public bodies in London and the Home Counties. We pride ourselves on delivering a high-quality service. Staff are employed by the London Borough of Harrow but work for several public sector clients. About You The successful candidate will be expected to lead and develop a highly motivated team, as well as to personally undertake matters of a more complex nature. We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed assistant principal lawyer with an ability to support our clients with a proven ability to develop others.The successful candidate will be required to carry a full caseload focusing on employment matters including employment tribunal litigation and advice. Duties will include but not limited to<ul><li>Advising senior officers and elected members in a proactive and politically sensitive manner,</li><li>Overseeing and advising on complex cases regarding employment matters,</li><li>Supporting the strategic development of HB Public Law jointly with the chief legal advisors, principal lawyers, and other assistant principal lawyers,</li><li>Receiving and allocating instructions,</li><li>Active supervision of staff to include appraisals, one to one’s and general mentoring,</li><li>Advising and supporting corporate groups, senior officers and elected members in a proactive and politically sensitive manner</li></ul>The successful candidate will have extensive previous local authority employment law experience and will be passionate about teamwork and developing others.
