What’s the role?
Housing Services Directorate is looking to appoint an Accommodation Assessment &amp; Lettings Team Leader to manage a team of six Accommodation Assessment &amp; Lettings Officers responsible for offering suitable accommodation under S188 and S193 duties. Successful management of this service area will ensure we deliver a high quality, customer-focused approach to our applicants eligible for homelessness assistance and continuous improvement and efficiency in the service delivery. In addition, you will ensure officers complete S208, enforce offer of suitable accommodation, correctly undertake the discharge of duty and complete all other tasks relevant to their role.

What we’re looking for
We are seeking an experienced Accommodation Assessment &amp; Lettings Team Leader with a good working knowledge of managing a team responsible for offering accommodation under S188 and S193, Part 6 &amp; 7 of the Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Act 2002 and Localism Act 2011 and its application. You must have knowledge and understanding of the activities, functions and processes involved in offering suitable accommodation under S188 and S193 as well as issuing discharge of duty decisions.

We are ambitious with a clear strategy to deliver on our vision. This role is a critical part of delivering our vision. We are looking for a new Head of Private Sector Licencing and Home Improvement. What we’re looking for Reporting to the Director of Housing Strategy, the Head of Private Sector Licencing and Home Improvement will lead a service area that provides strategic direction for the Council’s housing improvement and assistance service and the property licensing and enforcement function. This is an area of the division with big ambition, as we have recently expanded our property licencing schemes and have seen an increase in applications from residents for support from our grants, specifically the Disabled Facilities Grant. Managing a service of up to 100 staff the post-holder will lead our ambitions to work proactively within the private rented sector to drive up standards and safety for Lewisham’s residents. With expertise in the legal framework of regulation and licensing, you’ll be at the forefront of operationalising our new licensing scheme, and will maximise their impact through innovative new approaches to engaging with our residents. You will also be responsible for utilising a home assistance grant of £2million a year to support our most vulnerable residents to live in safe and secure homes from which they can live independent lives. We’re looking for a strategic and inspirational leader, communicator and manager who can demonstrate strong experience of delivering an operational income-generating service, ideally with a background in commercial or regulatory and enforcement services as well as a strong background and experience in managing Disabled Facilities Grants services. We are looking for an experienced officer to join our busy but friendly and supportive Environmental Health team. You will work in the Residential team, and your duties will cover general nuisance investigations, all aspects of private sector housing, including the licensing of houses in multiple occupation, other housing work including the investigation of social housing complaints and public health tasks. Experience in the investigation of noise complaints and an interest in this area would be an advantage.
You will be enthusiastic, committed, self-motivated and have a positive attitude. You must be an excellent communicator and team player with sound time management skills and be confident in dealing with members of the public.&nbsp; You must be able to demonstrate your ability to adapt to changing priorities and work to tight deadlines.

About the role
The LGA has a strong track record of securing positive policy outcomes for local government in the areas of housing, planning and homelessness. In this role you will lead a small team to influence and deliver further policy change for the sector through the establishment and maintenance of relationships with central government, councils, parliamentarians and a range of other stakeholders.
Political oversight for this area of work is provided by the LGA’s Inclusive Growth Committee and you will work closely with elected politicians in shaping the LGA’s policy positions and lobbying strategies.
Working with the team you will ensure that the LGA: is at the forefront of policy development and solutions; is engaging with government formally and informally through working groups, consultation responses and&nbsp; preparing elected members for Ministerial meetings; has a strong relationship with key partners and think tanks in this area of policy; is engaging with select committees and MPs on matters of legislation; is communicating &nbsp;its positions&nbsp; in the media; and is actively engaging with our member councils to ensure that the work of the LGA is informed by what is happening at the front line of service delivery.This role is offered on a full-time fixed term contract for one year.
