We spend over £100m annually on services provided by external suppliers, and this newly created role is central to giving stronger leadership and strategic oversight to our commercial practices, including category, contract and market management. This role will transform how we manage spend, ensuring best value and financial sustainability. As Director of Procurement &amp; Commercial, you will lead the development of a modern, high-performing commercial function, set the strategic direction, and embed a culture of compliance, capability and innovation. Reporting to the Executive Director of Resources, you will work closely with the Chief Executive, other senior officers and elected Members, acting as a trusted advisor and driving forward a commercial strategy that supports Redbridge’s organisational goals and future readiness.
In this role you will embed modern commercial practices and governance into the Council, developing a strategic framework for external spend, ensuring financial probity, performance, and the delivery of social value. You will work across the organisation to improve standards and support colleagues to adopt new ways of working that deliver better outcomes for our residents.
About you
We are looking for someone with a proven track record in procurement, commissioning and contract management at a senior level. You will be persuasive, collaborative and values-driven, with strong people management skills and a commitment to continuous improvement.
This is a pivotal leadership role that requires a confident and credible individual with the technical expertise and drive to lead change at pace. Your leadership will be key to building capability, improving culture, and ensuring Redbridge becomes recognised for commercial excellence.
Experience of working in complex public sector environments, ideally within local government, will be essential, along with a clear understanding of governance, financial regulations and strategic commercial practice.

The role We’re looking for an experienced Purchasing Manager to lead procurement activity within Camden’s Gas Servicing and Maintenance service. In this role, you’ll manage the end-to-end purchasing process – from raising orders and coordinating suppliers, to auditing invoices and monitoring stock. You’ll make sure our teams have the right materials, at the right time, to deliver safe, efficient and high-quality services to Camden’s residents. You’ll work closely with suppliers, contractors, and colleagues across our Mechanical &amp; Electrical (M&amp;E) teams, ensuring compliance with Camden’s procurement policies while driving value for money and efficiency. What you’ll do <ul> <li> Manage day-to-day procurement for gas servicing and maintenance. </li> <li> Raise purchase orders and ensure compliance with contract pricing and terms. </li> <li> Monitor supplier performance and address delivery or quality issues. </li> <li> Audit invoices, resolve mismatches, and maintain accurate financial records. </li> <li> Support stock management, forecasting demand, and coordinating restocks. </li> <li> Manage warranty claims and faulty parts returns with suppliers. </li> <li> Provide data and reports to support financial monitoring, pricing reviews, and supplier performance reviews. </li> <li> Act as a key link between operational teams and suppliers. </li> </ul> About you We’re looking for someone who is organised, detail-focused, and confident in managing suppliers and procurement processes.
