Overall Job Purpose:
Our Communities and Wellbeing Team are responsible for a range of programmes that support community safety, cohesion, resilience and wellbeing. Working with our community partners is at the heart of what we do and this role will be key to achieving our objectives. The Team are looking for a person who has the passion and experience of working in community development.
The Communities and Wellbeing Project Officer will support the delivery of the Arun Local Community Network and represent the Council across voluntary and community sector partnerships. The role will also facilitate the Arun Youth Council. The role will support the delivery of community projects, including the Council’s cost of living response and community resilience programmes.
The role will contribute to the delivery of Council priorities as identified within the Council’s
Vision, Wellbeing Strategy and the Safer Arun Partnership Plan.

Communities and Wellbeing Projects Officer

Working with young people aged between 11yrs -19 years, in a youth club setting. You will encourage young people’s participation in their club and in planning and running activities with them. Building relationships with these young people, by being a good listener, listening to what the young people want from the activities as well as listening to their issues and sign posting them on to other services as and when required. You will be expected to support the work under the direction of the Youth Club Manager. Your duties could include, sport, dance, participation in art, music, drama, discussions, and cooking with young people to name but a few, also off-site activities to include day trips and residentials. This successful candidate for this post will be expected to work across all areas of the youth club including the learning needs provision. Skills: 1.	Be enthusiastic and be able to make and maintain effective relationships with young people. 2.	Have experience of working with young people from age 11-25 years, be enthusiastic and able to make and maintain effective relationships. 3.	Have excellent communication skills and be able to engage effectively with young people, staff, and stakeholders in a restorative way. 4.	The ability to converse at ease with service users. 5.	Be friendly and approachable with a sense of humour and lots of patience. 6.	Be able to work within a team, as there will be lots of interaction with volunteers and other staffs as this is very much a hands on job. 7.	An understanding of anti-discriminatory practice is essential and the empowerment of young people is essential. 8.	Be open-minded, but recognise and challenge inappropriateness in a young person’s behaviour or language. 9.	Be flexible in your hours of work as you will need availability to work in the evenings and occasional weekends as well as working from different sites.

From arts and crafts to sports, games, and imaginative play, you’ll help bring joy and adventure to every session You’ll engage with children from diverse backgrounds, build positive relationships with families, and work closely with your teammates to create a welcoming, inclusive, and safe play environment. You’ll also play a key role in maintaining site safety and reporting any potential hazards. Beyond the day-to-day fun, you’ll support the development of the playground itself—helping a space that reflects the needs and voices of local children, all while following Portsmouth City Council’s policies and procedures. You will be organising and running activities for children aged 6 - 13 and families on a council run Adventure Playground. Activities include arts and crafts, games, sports and other creative activities. This role sits within the Housing, Neighbourhood &amp; Building Services (HNB) and focuses on identifying needs, developing, and managing projects within the Play, Youth &amp; Community (PYC) Service. You’ll work in collaboration with various agencies to enhance health and wellbeing, reduce social isolation, and promote independence among children, young people, and their families. Key Responsibilities •	Lead on health and wellbeing initiatives for staff and service users, ensuring projects are well-defined, effectively managed, and delivered on time. •	Build strong relationships with internal teams, senior managers, and external stakeholders to support programme success. •	Manage a small team, overseeing daily operations and ensuring delivery of service objectives. •	Identify funding opportunities and prepare business cases to expand services and share resources with partners. •	Manage a health development budget to support wellbeing initiatives. •	Plan medium- and long-term projects using national guidance and evidence, adapting them to local needs and service policies. •	Develop and implement community development strategies aligned with public health goals. •	Create and evaluate action plans to embed healthy outcomes across PYC services. •	Demonstrate an awareness of the challenges faced by vulnerable children, young people, and families, including poverty and health inequalities. •	Collaborate with the Tackling Poverty Coordinator to support shared outcomes. •	Facilitate stakeholder engagement and coordinate service-wide meetings to support programme delivery. •	Represent the service at multi-agency meetings and contribute to wider wellbeing campaigns. •	Deliver workforce development programmes in partnership with the learning and development team, covering safeguarding, mental health, restorative practice, and more. •	Work with the communications team to promote the PYC service across various platforms. •	Support frontline staff in delivering consistent public health messages. The Fostering and Adoption Team are looking to recruit a Social Worker to focus on the support needs of children living with adults via a Special Guardianship Order (SGO). This role will include an emphasis on placing the safety and welfare of children at the very centre of everything we do.
Based within the Adoption Hub of the Fostering and Adoption Team, you would work directly with children and adults to undertake assessments of SGO support needs, produce and action SGO support plans and review these regularly. You would offer advice, guidance and signposting to Special Guardians, birth parents, other relatives and professionals on SGO-related topics (e.g. keeping in touch arrangements). So we are looking for a Social Worker who is excellent at working directly with young children, adolescents and adults alike. The successful applicant will have well developed empathy skills, a commitment to anti-discriminatory practice and be keen to engage in reflective supervision.
As part of the Fostering and Adoption Team you would work closely with colleagues in the Fostering Hubs, Support and Protection Teams, the Virtual School, schools, other professionals and the wider community. As such, we are looking for candidates who are energetic, self motivated with excellent interpersonal and communication skills to join our experienced and hardworking team.
