Responsibilities -&nbsp;

<li>Conduct a full range of residential property cases and some commercial property cases on behalf of the Council's Housing and Property Team.</li>
<li>Liaising with HMRC in relation to SDLT liability.</li>
<li>Complete and lodge application for first registration at Land Registry</li>
<li>Handling of post completion enquiries including request for certificate of compliance, deed of postponement and requisitions raised by the Land Registry.</li>
<li>Experience of drafting less complex title reports.</li>
<li>Utilising skills and experience gained within a similar position, you will report to the Principal Lawyer (Property &amp; Planning) and will have your own varied caseload of matters including residential and commercial property and land transactions.</li>

To be successful in this role you will need to:

<li>Hold a qualifying law degree, LPC or equivalent legal qualification.</li>
<li>Have experience of both residential and commercial conveyancing, preferably in a local government context.</li>
<li>Experienced of dealing with all aspects of Right to Buy transactions</li>
<li>Sound knowledge of the law and practice of property law</li>
<li>Conduct a case load within your area of expertise with limited supervision</li>

About the role…
To be successful as the Compliance Officer your duties will include:
<ul>
<li>Maintaining regular contact with care providers via monthly multi-disciplinary meetings</li>
<li>Acting as a point of contact for care providers regarding any issues connected to quality and compliance in line with their CQC regulatory standards of care</li>
<li>Providing regular updates to providers via newsletter, email and telephone contact on various topics including training, infection control etc.</li>
<li>Acting as a link to national, regional and local forums connected to provider care provision including Skills for Care</li>
<li>Working with the Compliance Lead to co-ordinate the assurance visits, undertake pre-assurance visit research and collate data to prepare for potential key lines of enquiry</li>
<li>Undertaking aspects of the assurance visits in line with Rutland’s Assurance Framework and to record, analyse and report findings from these visits to produce SMART action plans which support an approach of continuous improvement</li>
<li>Involvement in implementing projects with providers, informed by national, regional and local priorities and to co-produce, co-design with providers wherever possible</li>

About the Role:
The post holder will manage all litigation in relation to contracts and commercial to ensure the Council’s interests are safeguarded. A key requirement will also be to provide high quality, constructive legal and constitutional advice and assistance to Council, Cabinet, Council committees/panels, members and senior management.
About the Candidate:
The ideal Senior Lawyer candidate will be proactive and self-motivated, having excellent technical skills and a good level of experience in dealing with property matters.
You will also have great communication skills both written and verbal with the ability to deliver complex advice clearly and be able to communicate effectively with people internally, and externally.
Local government legal work is varied and whilst at times it can be challenging, it is also very rewarding. There will be times when you need to work under pressure and balance conflicting priorities, however, you will be supported in doing this. You will also be supported to demonstrate a commitment to your own professional development and a willingness to undertake training and develop new skills as required.

The successful candidate will support an experienced Senior Employment Lawyer by advising on employment matters as a secondary area of work. While prior experience in Employment Law is preferred, it is not essential—comprehensive support and training will be provided to the right candidate.
As with all roles within the Council’s Legal Service, the candidate will also be expected to develop a working knowledge of Local Government Law to advise on governance-related matters.
