As a Mortuary Assistant, you’ll play an essential part in ensuring the safe, respectful and compliant handling of deceased patients within the County Mortuary. Working as part of the Coroners, Registration and Bereavement Service, you’ll support the smooth running of daily operations, contribute to high professional standards, and uphold the dignity of every individual in your care. Your work will focus on keeping mortuary operations running smoothly and safely. You’ll be responsible for the careful transportation of deceased patients to the County Mortuary, ensuring all associated possessions and records are handled accurately and respectfully. Inside the mortuary, you’ll support colleagues with safe movement and preparation tasks, help maintain a clean and compliant environment, and ensure samples and clinical waste are managed correctly. You’ll also contribute to seasonal or emergency duties when required, providing steady, reliable support in a service that depends on calm focus and professionalism.About you You’ll be someone who can remain calm, professional and compassionate in sensitive situations. You’re comfortable working independently, but also value being part of a supportive team. You bring strong attention to detail, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with care. You’ll also have:<ul><li>A full driving licence and confidence operating specialist vehicles.</li><li>The ability to carry out regular manual handling tasks safely.</li><li>A good standard of general education (GCSE or equivalent).</li><li>An understanding of Health &amp; Safety and HTA compliance, or a willingness to learn.</li><li>Flexibility to work an alternating shift pattern, including some weekends and bank holidays. It also features advanced post-mortem capabilities, including a CT scanner for remote examination, setting a new standard in service delivery.&nbsp;We are now looking for an experienced Mortuary Quality Assurance Lead to join the new service.&nbsp;<h2>Additional information</h2>As well as being an excellent communicator with an eye for detail, you will have experience of the following:&nbsp;<ul><li>Demonstrable experience of setting up and running quality management systems</li><li>Knowledge of preparing for and undertaking HTA and UKAS inspections</li><li>Understands risk assessments, risk management and the process for HTA Reportable Incidents</li><li>Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Human Tissue Act</li><li>Experience procuring and managing contracts and KPIs&nbsp;</li><li>Achieved the Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology or Level 3 or 4 Diploma in Healthcare Science (Anatomical Pathology Technology)&nbsp;</li><li>Demonstrable leadership experience as you will have line management responsibilities&nbsp;</li></ul>You will need to have experience of working in a mortuary/bereavement services role to be considered for this role.<h2>Company information</h2>At West Northants Council, it’s about our people.
