What does the role involve?&nbsp;&nbsp;

<li>Supporting&nbsp;pupils with EHCPs to access learning through visual symbols, structured routines, and differentiated activities, fostering prosocial communication and behaviour.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Implementing&nbsp;programmes focused on speech, language and communication, social communication, emotional and sensory regulation, and&nbsp;life skills—guided by teachers and external professionals (e.g., speech therapists, educational psychologists).&nbsp;&nbsp;</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Contributing&nbsp;to daily Sensory Circuit activities and&nbsp;small group/1:1 interventions,&nbsp;maintaining&nbsp;a calm, safe environment.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Helping&nbsp;assess and record progress using the Cherry Garden and AET frameworks; provide feedback for pupils’ SEN School Support Plans each term.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li>

<li>Working&nbsp;closely with families, modelling strategies that can be supported at home to aid consistency and generalisation.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li>

What is the Orchard?&nbsp;
The Orchard is Leighton Academy’s specialist 20place SEN Unit (Year 1–Year 6) for pupils whose primary needs are Cognition &amp; Learning and Speech, Language &amp; Communication, as&nbsp;identified&nbsp;on their EHCP. Children learn and play in a dedicated,&nbsp;sensory friendly&nbsp;area of the school and benefit from highly structured routines, visual supports, and a calm, happy environment designed for engagement and success.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Our provision includes two classrooms with&nbsp;small group&nbsp;learning areas, a sensory room/calming space, dedicated outside play, and its own toilets and separate changing area—all set up to promote communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, life&nbsp;skills&nbsp;and independence. We adapt mainstream curriculum plans, emphasise fine/gross motor development and social play, and deliver daily Sensory Circuit sessions. We are excited to offer the opportunity to an exceptional candidate to join our dedicated pastoral team at Monks Coppenhall Academy and Nursery as a Wellbeing Mentor/Nurture Lead. This pivotal role will complement our existing support network, which includes a full-time Family Link Worker, a Behaviour Mentor, a part-time Art-Based Therapy Practitioner, and a team of Teaching Assistants delivering emotional literacy sessions.

The Ideal Candidate will:
<ul>
<li>Support SEMH Needs: Demonstrate experience in addressing social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) barriers that impact a child’s ability to access the curriculum.</li>
<li>Address School Avoidance: Understand the underlying causes of emotionally-based school avoidance and implement effective solutions.</li>
<li>Be Trauma-Informed: Utilise trauma-informed practices and attachment-aware strategies to provide a safe, supportive environment for our pupils.</li>
<li>Deliver Targeted Interventions: Lead small-group and 1:1 sessions, delivering evidence-based programmes such as ELSA and My Happy Mind.</li>
<li>Collaborate on Safeguarding: Undertake duties delegated by the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and utilise screening tools (e.g. Erase, Contextual Safeguarding, and Neglect).</li>
<li>Use Wellbeing Assessment Tools: Administer and utilise emotional literacy and wellbeing assessments for individuals and groups of children (e.g., SDQs, Me and My Feelings questionnaire and Southampton/GL Emotional Literacy Assessment)</li>
<li>Collaborate with and refer to external agencies: consult with external agencies, such as the Mental Health Support Team or CLASP, complete referrals and implement any advice as necessary.</li>
<li>Build Strong Relationships: Create social stories and foster respectful, positive connections with children, parents, and colleagues, including gathering the ‘Voice of the Child’ where appropriate.</li>
<li>Promote School Values: Embody our school motto: “To be the best we can in mind, body, and spirit.”</li>
