About the Job The Building Safety Projects Team Support Officer role is to facilitate and assist in cladding projects and activities as required within private sector housing standards, to achieve improvements in dealing with combustible cladding and other fire safety issues affecting blocks in the private sector, within Newham, in accordance with service requirements, the Housing Act 2004, Building Safety Act 2022, Fire Safety Act 2021, and other relevant legislation. We are monitoring on behalf of the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) the number of privately owned buildings with ACM, other unsafe cladding or other fire safety issues. Some of the work needed in Newham, in relation to high-rise and mid-rise buildings, is to support an increase in the level of enforcement activity, where required, to robustly drive the remediation of unsafe private sector buildings in our area. Our enforcement efforts include: identifying remaining high-rise and mid-rise buildings with unsafe cladding and other relevant fire safety defects; managing building-by-building data; obtaining information for DLUHC on specific buildings of concern; engaging with building owners to monitor and drive the progress of remediation; and taking appropriate and swift regulatory and enforcement action so that buildings are made safe faster. Where necessary we will take appropriate enforcement action using the Housing Act 2004, as well as utilising the new powers under Part 5 of the Building Safety Act 2022 to compel owners to remediate their buildings.&nbsp; The Building Safety Project Support Officer Post is to provide vital administrative support required for data collection, retention and organisation. In addition to facilitating communications with various stakeholders and processes associated with enforcement activities. Additionally, you will help shape the Council's school improvement plans and efforts to raise the educational standards of children with SEN.In this role, you will provide expert advice and training to schools, families, and other professionals on statutory processes, and represent the Local Authority at Special Educational Needs Tribunals when necessary. You will also support the Authority in minimizing parental appeals through effective disagreement resolution, working closely with the SENDIAS Officer to ensure parents are informed of their rights under relevant legislation, including the Children and Families Act 2014 and the Disability Discrimination Act 2005.Your work will also involve leading and chairing the SEND Assessment Service at key meetings, such as the multi-agency moderation group and audit meetings, providing written reports and recommendations for the Provision Panel. You will offer advice on the Code of Practice, SEN legislation, and procedures to local services, schools, and external agencies, ensuring consistent and effective service delivery.Please note this role does not attract sponsorship.<h2>About you</h2>To thrive in this role, you will bring in-depth experience and knowledge of statutory assessment systems, particularly under the Education Act 1996 and the Children and Families Act 2014. You will be proactive in resolving conflict, finding creative solutions, and ensuring that the needs of children and young people are met in a collaborative and holistic way.You will also have the ability to manage a complex caseload and meet statutory timescales efficiently, leveraging your ICT skills for office tasks such as word processing, Excel, and PowerPoint. Your ability to make informed, evidence-based recommendations and produce accurate, well-structured EHC plans, case reports, and tribunal documentation will be essential to your role.With a thorough understanding of equality issues and a deep knowledge of SEN legislation, including the SEN Code of Practice and the Children and Families Act 2014, you will be equipped to advise and support others on these matters.
