The Role
We have an exciting opportunity to join our Planning Services Team. As a Planning Officer you will be assessing planning applications, advising on pre- applications and defending us at appeal. With excellent communication skills you’ll assume responsibility for effective negotiation and resolution, supporting growth and regeneration that reflects the Council’s wider positive objectives and policies of promoting high quality and innovative development while protecting the environment and conserving the historic character of the Borough.
We’d love it if you have relevant planning experience and qualifications, but if you don’t you can still apply as we would be happy to train you. The important thing is that you have a passion for making the town the best it can be.

Who are you?

What we are looking for is someone with a passion for the built environment, what your town looks like and how it benefits the community. You will be someone who wants to become involved in the shaping of our town in a sustainable way, enabling growth whilst protecting the natural environment and quality of life for residents.
You will be able to understand and assess plans and drawings and clearly communicate your assessment and conclusions both verbally and through accurate and concise reports. You will be comfortable in making detailed site visits to assess planning applications and dealing with customers face to face and via correspondence.&nbsp; You’ll have the ability to work under your own initiative making recommendations on planning applications. You will be able to project manage your work to meet Council and Government targets. You will be able to work in difficult, pressured and potentially confrontational situations and remain calm.

This job is suited to someone:
<ul>
<li>with existing experience as a Planning Officer, or</li>
<li>who has worked in a planning either in the public or private sector and wishes to specialise in Development Management, or</li>
<li>who would like to jump into a career in planning with no previous experience and in this case, training would be provided to support you in your journey up to and including degree level.</li>
</ul>
You’ll have excellent communication and customer-care skills, the ability to work flexibly, as part of a busy and high performing team. If you don’t have a qualification but would like to pursue learning opportunities, we will support you by providing the relevant training to help you develop in your role and further progress your career, up to and including degree level.

As a Support Services Officer, you will work directly with people facing the most barriers to securing and keeping their home. Your caseload will be managed carefully allowing you to give your best to those you are supporting.
The immediate focus of the role is to deliver a Housing First model of support, helping someone recently housed after long-term rough sleeping, providing practical and compassionate assistance to maintain their tenancy, engage with additional services and the wider community. In the longer term, caseloads may vary to include supporting someone at risk of eviction, helping them manage their finances, liaising with landlords, and seeking alternative accommodation to prevent homelessness.
You will need knowledge and understanding of the causes of homelessness and the support needs of the individuals.&nbsp;

Civil Enforcement Officer
Salary: £25,583 to £33,699 per annum depending on experience.
Location: Hastings, East Sussex

Working Pattern: Full Time/Weekends
Hours: 37 hours per week. on a shift basis (shifts vary but may include weekends).

As a Civil Enforcement Officer, your role will be to provide an essential and valued service at the core of our public protection and community safety work. You will be fully supported in this role and will undertake patrols across the town, including in our off-street car parks. During these patrols, you will play a significant role in reducing enviro-crime and anti-social behaviour and helping to ensure our town remains a beautiful place to visit and enjoy. This work will be carried out in close partnership with other agencies, including the Police, other council departments and the local community.
The ideal candidate will be someone with experience working with the public. Having some form of enforcement experience would be an advantage, but full training will be offered to the right person.
You will be working with a team and organisation that has achieved Community Safety Accreditation through Sussex Police and you will be required to work towards this status.
