Head of Service - Strategic Commissioning

Birmingham Youth Justice Service is in the middle of an exciting and extensive modernisation programme with a clear goal to become the sector leading youth justice service. We are creating a progressive, creative, energetic and inspiring service that is best equipped to understand and reduce offending behaviour amongst children and we are looking for the right people to help us to achieve this.An exciting opportunity has arisen for the right individuals to join Birmingham Youth Justice Service as our Senior Court Officer. Have you the skills and experience to provide an effective service in the Criminal Court setting? Are you able to promote the Birmingham Youth Justice Service’s interventions regarding the courts, parents, children, and young people? You must have experience of working in a multi-agency setting with children and young people involved in the Criminal Justice System and knowledge of criminal legislation including bail and remand as it affects youths. The ability to work on your own initiative is essential. You must have experience of preparing formal reports, carrying out safeguarding assessments, evaluating risk, and dealing with contextual safeguarding issues. You’ll have the experience and awareness of the underlying issues that contribute to children and young people’s offending behaviour and will want to achieve the best outcomes for them, their family, their victims and the community. The key responsibilities for this role will involve the following: -<ul> <li>To work as part of the Youth Justice Service (YJS) Court Team servicing Birmingham Youth, Magistrates and Crown Court to fulfil the statutory requirements placed on the Youth Justice Service by the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 and any proceeding legislation.</li> <li>Working in partnership with the Criminal Justice Agencies and the Judiciary. Influencing remand and sentencing decisions, particularly in reducing the use of remands to youth detention.</li> <li>Undertaking assessments including safeguarding and vulnerability to determine the appropriateness of placements in respect of children and young people entering the secure estate and delivering these services in line with the expectations of the Youth Justice Board.</li> <li>To ensure that the appropriate action is taken by the Court Team after each Court session to meet the requirements of the bench upon the Youth Justice Service or its statutory partners. This will involve the maintenance of clear, concise written records, and updating the Youth Justice Service electronic database and Youth Justice Service E-records.</li> <li>Liaison with other agencies involved in the court process, including the presentation and dissemination of Youth Justice Service information, formal reports, and interventions to Judges and Magistrates.</li> <li>Production of placement information and post custody reports within the asset plus framework as required by the Youth Justice Board.</li> <li>Assisting with monitoring and reviewing the team’s workload to enhance overall performance aligned with key performance measures.</li> <li>You will be required to work on Bank Holidays and Saturdays on a rota basis.</li></ul>This is an office role based in Birmingham City Centre so you must reside within a suitable commutable distance around Birmingham and have the correct right-to-work documents to work in the UK. About the role:All families have strengths and Family Connectors play an important role in finding positive supporters for children so we are looking for someone who shares our passion for ensuring that children and their families are always be involved in planning for care and protection where it is safe to do so.Family Connectors have the responsibility of searching for family members, fictive kin or natural support for children and young people referred by social care practitioners. It is a neutral role and the Family Connector willuse a range of tools and techniques to locate and engage relatives of children and young people to the greatest possible extent. This could include indirect methods such as deep file searches, using social media and genealogy tools to complete a family tree through to direct methods such as DNA testing, mobility mapping and interviewing family in order to ensure that no stone is left unturned. Senior Social Worker - Pre Birth Team 

Are you passionate about making a real difference to children, we are looking for dynamic, motivated individuals to join our Empower U team as Missing Support Workers. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a focused engagement with children who have gone missing. As a Missing Support Worker, you’ll be offering, high-quality return home interviews with children who go missing sometimes as a one off or sometimes more regularly. You work will help in reducing future missing episodes, address contextual safeguarding risks and assess safeguarding concerns. Your reports will make recommendations to prevent further missing episodes based on your visit with the child. It is integral every contact is underpinned by strong engagement skills so children feel safe to talk to you and you are able to engage children who may not find that easy. You will need good people skills and experience of engaging young people effectively in creative and non-judgemental ways. You will have a caring nature and be professionally curious about why a young person has gone missing and the impact of missing on the child(ren). You will have awareness of why return home interviews are undertaken and the themes and trends around missing children. Also, your approach will be trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and culturally competent, to ensure these responsive visits are impactful and supportive even when you may only engage with this child on a one-off occasion. While you will receive good support you will work independently, mostly carrying out visits on your own. You will be required to manage your own schedule and caseload, often under tight timeframes. The role requires extensive travel across the region, so flexibility and self-motivation and self-resilience are essential. While you’ll work autonomously, you’ll also be part of a multi-agency Exploitation Hub, collaborating with professionals and local organisations to address the root causes of missing episodes and wider contextual safeguarding concerns and contributing to making the lives of Birmingham children safe, fun, happy and full of opportunity. The Mental Health team would like to offer Approved Mental Health Professionals the opportunity to support the Isle of Wight AMHP Service through our casual bank list. We are looking for Approved Mental Health Professionals who are approved by a Local Authority, or willing to work to be approved by the Isle of Wight Council, to cover the function of executing Mental Health Act Assessments in a variety of settings.
This post is zero-hours and would suit AMHPs who work for another Authority but would like some experience working on an island, or for AMHPs that have not practiced for a while but would be willing to undertake the training to become approved by the Isle of Wight Council.
The ethos of the post is to cover AMHP shifts in case of vacancies or sickness as part of the 24-hour on-call rota, including evening and weekend hours and bank holidays.
We will provide you with an induction to the systems used and resources of the island before you will be expected to work on your own, in addition to support from the AMHP manager to discuss any areas of practice concerns.
Post incentives:
