About the Job
The purpose of the role is to lead on the development and delivery of Havering’s Research Strategy, and to embed a research-focused approach to evidence-based decision making across the Council.
The post holder will be based in the Insights Team within the Public Health, Insights, Policy & Strategy Directorate and will work closely with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to champion research.
The post holder will be enthusiastic and passionate about research and will have the following key responsibilities:
- Establish and embed an agreed understanding of what research is.
- Leverage their skills in stakeholder engagement and communication to develop and promote the Council’s research culture.
- Increase awareness of and participation in research across the Council.
- Encourage all Council staff to use best existing evidence and robust evaluation methods to inform cost-effective decision making.
- Build research capability by designing and delivering training and development.
The post is jointly funded by Havering Council and the NIHR RSS Specialist Centre for Public Health. The post holder will be able to access training and support from the NIHR RSS Specialist Centre for Public Health, particularly the Local Authority Research Practitioner Network.
About You
- Good first degree or equivalent professional qualification.
- Postgraduate degree in a relevant subject OR at least 1 year experience in a relevant post.
- Evidence of working with partners across a local system (e.g. Universities, the Voluntary and Community Sector).
- Understanding of the UK public health research landscape.
- Knowledge and experience of designing research or evaluation projects using both quantitative and qualitative methods, including those used in prevention and population studies.
- Experience of applying and complying with information governance, confidentiality and ethics guidance in data sharing and research.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal to be able to present complex information and concepts to diverse audiences, using different methods.
