In this role, you’ll investigate and manage noise and nuisance cases in the commercial sector, from initial complaint through to resolution and potential court proceedings. You’ll also prepare reports and respond to Members’ and public enquiries. The essential requirement for the Senior/Environmental Protection Officers roles are as follows;
Environmental Protection Officer&nbsp;(PO1 &amp; PO2)
PO1 - Requires experience in environmental noise and nuisance investigations, including enforcement, as well as consulting on Licensing applications.
PO2 - Requires experience in environmental noise and nuisance investigations and consulting on Planning, Licensing, and Prior Consent s.61 applications. An IOA Certificate of Competence in Environmental Noise Measurement is desirable.
Senior Environmental Protection Officer&nbsp;(PO3 &amp; PO4)
PO3 - Requires significant experience in environmental noise and nuisance investigations and enforcement. Must have the IOA Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control.
About Us:
PO4 - Requires extensive experience and knowledge in environmental noise and nuisance investigations and enforcement. Must have an accredited academic qualification (e.g., MSc, BSc (Hons), or Diploma) in Environmental Health approved by the Environmental Health Registration Board, or an MSc in Environmental and Architectural Acoustics or equivalent, is essential.

About the Role 
The Public Health Team within Regulatory Services is seeking an Environmental Protection Officer to join our frontline service. This role is key to protecting Enfield’s streets and public spaces by investigating complaints of domestic and commercial nuisances, filthy &amp; verminous premises, waste on private land and defective drainage. There will be an opportunity to gain experience in air quality, contaminated land and permitted premises. 
This is a varied and active role, where you will spend much of your week out on district, investigating complaints, gathering evidence, and taking enforcement action where appropriate. 
Who We’re Looking For 
We are seeking a motivated and proactive officer with strong investigative and enforcement skills. Experience of working within a local authority environmental protection / pollution team is desirable, but not essential. 
We welcome applications from: 
 
 - Existing Technical Officers or Environmental Health Officers (newly qualified candidates will be considered or those wishing to complete their training to be registered with the CIEH). 
 - Individuals with enforcement experience and a “can do” attitude who are eager to develop within environmental protection. 
 
Training will be provided to suitable candidates with relevant enforcement backgrounds. 
Key Requirements 
 
 - Ability to investigate complaints, record evidence, take witness statements, and prepare prosecution files to a high standard. 
 - Strong communication and organisational skills, with attention to detail in case management. 
 - Willingness to work independently across the borough as part of day-to-day duties. 
 - Ability to travel across Enfield – a full UK driving licence (or alternative transport) is essential.

Role PurposeTower Hamlets is a fascinating borough, a multi-cultural community steeped in history. The contrasts and challenges in Environmental Protection are vast. The Environmental Protection Team works with other departments in the Council, Planning, Licensing, Arts and Events, Health and Housing, Local residents and external contractors to control excessive noise and vibration within the Borough. The Team are responsible for the Assessment of complex acoustic reports on behalf of Planning and providing expert comments to planning, based on current legislation and the Tower Hamlets local Plan. The analysis and agreement of Control of Pollution Act (COPA)1974 section 61 applications and works dispensations. Statutory noise nuisance assessments and sound level meter data analysis using specialist software and field measurements. Compilation of detailed and complex responses to Environmental Information Regulations requests, Freedom of Information requests and Ombudsman enquires with associated cases. The team also follow up on public requests for service. We are able to offer a range of career opportunities for individuals that are able demonstrate enthusiasm, effectiveness and determination. The Team is based within the Environmental Health and Trading Standards Service and is able to draw on resources and expertise across the Service.
