To work as part of the strategic planning group for Adult Learning and Skills development in
the City of London with a clear focus on identifying skills development opportunities that
ensure the education programme/curriculum offered to adults is accessible, inclusive and
responsive to the needs of the communities within the City of London and beyond.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

1. Take responsibility for all quality assurance and improvement activities of both non-
accredited and accredited provision as well as special project in terms of lesson

observations, monitoring of attendance, retention and achievement, evaluation of
learner feedback and conducting of learner focus groups.
2. To carryout line management duties for ACL sessional tutors.
3. Significantly contribute to the termly and annual self-assessment and quality
improvement plan.
4. Teach no less than 60 guided learning hours per academic year.
5. Respond to improvement requirements in a timely fashion and ensuring that high
expectations are set for all learners.
6. Co-ordinate the development of all ILPs and initial assessment activities. liaison with
external employers and stakeholder and ensure that further learning development and
employment is an effective part of the learners’ journey.

7. To provide support to raise standards and quality of teaching and learning and
employment opportunities. To improve and raise the performance of all services (98%
tutors should achieve Outstanding for Observation of Teaching and learning)
8. Quality assures course descriptions, ensure that course tutors have adequate
information to give meaningful support and advice to all learners. Contribute to
information and advice and recruitment sessions during peak recruitment periods.
9. Take responsibility for the quality monitoring meetings with all partners and
stakeholders. Review quality policies and processes termly and communicate them to
all staff.
10. Support tutors through training, 1:1 meetings and coaching as required. Provide
additional professional development when needed.
11. Ensure that all courses are adequately resourced, with a strong focus on the value and
importance using new technology to enhance learning and support the acquisition on
new relevant skills.
12. Take the lead-role within the Adult Skills and Community Learning Service planning
group for teaching and learning. Keep abreast of national curriculum development.
13. Jointly develop with employer/partners a programme of educational and skills
opportunities that reflect the learning, health and wellbeing needs of workers coming
into the city.
14. Develop key techniques for working local partners to ensure that the programme that is
offered is inclusive, shaped by learners and partners/employers and that it is flexible,
responsive and accessible to all.
15. Coordinate the activities of the support staff and ensure the efficient running of all COL
Adult and Community Learning service.
16. Develop high quality learning opportunities that match the needs and interests of local
adults, engage the excluded and provide progression routes that are clear and
comprehensive.
17. Work with local schools/academies in the city and its fringe boroughs to ensure that a
range of activities are offered that engage children, parents and families designed to
increase the involvement of parents in their children’s education.
18. Organise an annual celebration of achievement event and a learner work exhibition for
arts, crafts and textiles.
19. Undertake any other duties that may reasonably be requested appropriate to the grade.
20. Actively seek to implement the City of London’s Occupational Health and Safety Policy
in relation to the duties of the post and always give due regard to the health and safety
of both themselves, and others when carrying out their duties.
