Building Control Surveyor x 2
About the role:
We are looking to appoint 2 self-motivated and ambitious registered Building Control Surveyors to join our highly professional and successful Building Control Team.
You will need to hold min Class 2F or 3 registrations with the Building Safety Regulator and have Chartered Member, Member or Fellow Chartered Member of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE) or alternative acceptable professional body.
You will be responsible for undertaking plan assessment, site inspections and enforcement work across a wide spectrum of works ranging from small domestic projects up to large complex commercial developments subject to the Registration class of the successful candidate.
In addition, the role involves assessing and undertaking any reasonable actions to protect the public from dangerous structures, unauthorised works, demolition work and works that form obstructions to the public highway and participation in the Councils out of hours emergency call out service.
About the candidate:
You will have substantial experience and understanding of the role and functions of Building Control and have a sound knowledge of the Building Regulations, Approved Documents, allied legislation and enforcement procedures.
You’ll have experience of dealing with dangerous buildings and structures and implementing enforcement action when necessary.
Hold Corporate Membership of CABE / RICS or acceptable alternative.
You’ll need to hold Class 2F or 3 Registration with the Building Safety Regulator in respect of Plans assessment and inspection activities.
You’ll need to be able to participate in the Councils out of hours emergency call out service.
You will possess excellent communication, interpersonal and IT skills and be able to work both individually and as part of a team.
You will hold a full, valid driving licence and have unrestricted use of a suitable vehicle for business purposes or be able to otherwise demonstrate the ability to travel to locations in an efficient and timely manner.

About the Role

About You
We are looking for Registered Building Inspectors to manage an area within the Borough and assist the team as a whole to maintain its current outstandingly high level of service. Duties will include ensuring decisions on applications are made within the statutory period, undertaking site inspections so that works carried out on site comply with the building regulations, inspecting Dangerous Structures, providing out of hours and office cover.
We are seeking applicants with a good level of literacy and numeracy together with excellent IT skills.&nbsp; You will also need to be committed to delivering a first-class customer focused service in a competitive environment and marketing the department and Local Authority Building Control (LABC).
The ability to make clear concise and accurate decisions on the spot and under pressure is essential. You will ideally be a member of the CABE, RICS or CIOB. A current full UK driving licence and daily access to a car for business purposes are required, for which expenses will be paid.

The restructure has allowed the Council to offer an enhanced pay and reward package across all roles to ensure staff retention and build a team for the future that will be financially sustainable, customer focused and agile in adapting to change. The team has achieved UKAS Accredited ISO 9001 certified on the LABC scheme which demonstrates the Council's commitment to maintaining an efficient business model, provide development opportunities and demonstrate competency.About the Role and Our Ideal CandidateThis role attracts an additional yearly Market Supplement of £5k paid over 12 months and subject to review. You will manage a range of domestic and commercial applications under the Building Regulations as a Class 2 (Registered Building Inspector). You will also contribute to the work of the team on a wide range of relevant activities such as dangerous structures, enforcement and demolition notices. You will also assist in the learning and development of less experienced staff. The Council encourages flexible working and invests in staff training. We will pay your costs for achieving and renewing your accreditation with the Building Safety Regulator. This role offers hybrid working, but site visits are daily so you will need to be able to get to Sutton each day. About youYou will be expected to have a professional qualification giving membership to a recognised Building Control body e.g. RICS/CABE and have experience working in Building Control, ideally in Local Government. You will have reached a level of registration under the Building Safety that will enable you to deal with relevant domestic and commercial projects and have a thorough understanding of Building Regulations and related legislation.
