Principal Registered Building Inspector
Salary: Circa £67,000 (potentially more for exceptional candidate)

Working pattern: Full time (36 hours per week)
We are inviting applications from enthusiastic and qualified individuals to join our small but experienced Building Control team.&nbsp; You are required to be qualified to a minimum of Class 2F/4 Registered Building Inspector and be a corporate member of RICS/CABE (or equivalent). You will also have a proven track record within Local Authority Building Control.&nbsp;
The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking all general Building Control duties including the checking of plans and carrying out site inspections within the borough to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements; dealing with dangerous structures within the borough; and ensuring the use of the Council’s enforcement powers under the terms of the Building Act and Building Safety Act.&nbsp; You will report to the Group Head of Place, Protection and Prosperity and, in their absence, you will be responsible for managing the Building Control team when required to do so.&nbsp; As a member of the Spelthorne team, you will be expected to have not only an in-depth knowledge of construction but also all allied legislation relating to Building Control matters. You will be able to work under your own initiative and be committed to providing a first class level of service to our customers. In order to fulfil the duties associated with the post you require to hold a full and current driving license and have access to a suitable vehicle for work purposes.
This post is identified as a hybrid post supporting both office and home working in line with Spelthorne Borough Council’s policy. The post holder will be required to attend the office in line with a rota and any service requirements.
The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for customer facing posts.&nbsp; These posts fall within the scope of the Code of Practice on English language requirement for public sector workers.&nbsp; The Council, therefore, has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. Building Control Surveyor x 2
About the role:
We are looking to appoint 2 self-motivated and ambitious registered Building Control Surveyors to join our highly professional and successful Building Control Team.
You will need to hold min Class 2F or 3 registrations with the Building Safety Regulator and have Chartered Member, Member or Fellow Chartered Member of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE) or alternative acceptable professional body.
You will be responsible for undertaking plan assessment, site inspections and enforcement work across a wide spectrum of works ranging from small domestic projects up to large complex commercial developments subject to the Registration class of the successful candidate.
In addition, the role involves assessing and undertaking any reasonable actions to protect the public from dangerous structures, unauthorised works, demolition work and works that form obstructions to the public highway and participation in the Councils out of hours emergency call out service.
About the candidate:
You will have substantial experience and understanding of the role and functions of Building Control and have a sound knowledge of the Building Regulations, Approved Documents, allied legislation and enforcement procedures.
You’ll have experience of dealing with dangerous buildings and structures and implementing enforcement action when necessary.
Hold Corporate Membership of CABE / RICS or acceptable alternative.
You’ll need to hold Class 2F or 3 Registration with the Building Safety Regulator in respect of Plans assessment and inspection activities.
You’ll need to be able to participate in the Councils out of hours emergency call out service.
You will possess excellent communication, interpersonal and IT skills and be able to work both individually and as part of a team.
You will hold a full, valid driving licence and have unrestricted use of a suitable vehicle for business purposes or be able to otherwise demonstrate the ability to travel to locations in an efficient and timely manner.

You will join an efficient and pro-active team of professionals to ensure the continuation of a first-class Building Control Service
Surrey Heath Borough comprises of a mix of residential, high end residential and commercial developments within 36.5 sq miles.
About You
We are looking for Registered Building Inspectors to manage an area within the Borough and assist the team as a whole to maintain its current outstandingly high level of service. Duties will include ensuring decisions on applications are made within the statutory period, undertaking site inspections so that works carried out on site comply with the building regulations, inspecting Dangerous Structures, providing out of hours and office cover.
We are seeking applicants with a good level of literacy and numeracy together with excellent IT skills.&nbsp; You will also need to be committed to delivering a first-class customer focused service in a competitive environment and marketing the department and Local Authority Building Control (LABC).
The ability to make clear concise and accurate decisions on the spot and under pressure is essential. You will ideally be a member of the CABE, RICS or CIOB. A current full UK driving licence and daily access to a car for business purposes are required, for which expenses will be paid.
