We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our Revenues &amp; Benefits team as a Temporary Accommodation Officer. In this vital role, you’ll ensure accurate invoicing, benefit processing, and debt recovery for residents in temporary accommodation. Working closely with colleagues across Housing and Finance, you’ll help ensure that residents receive the correct support and that the Council’s financial processes run smoothly.
You’ll work within a small, supportive team and collaborate closely with colleagues in the Housing team to ensure that residents placed into temporary accommodation are awarded the correct housing benefit (where appropriate) and that the correct council tax is charged. You will ensure that rent charges are invoiced in a timely manner and monitored for non-payment, instigating appropriate recovery action where necessary.
We’re looking for someone who brings a flexible mindset and sound judgement to their decision-making.
Your work will directly support some of the borough’s most vulnerable residents by ensuring fair and accurate financial management of temporary accommodation.

Temporary Accommodation Revenues & Benefits Officer (part time)

We are currently recruiting for a Financial Assessment Officer to determine service user contributions for community and residential care services and personal budgets and identify potential welfare benefit entitlement. To work out contributions in line with the Council’s Fairer Charging Policies, Charging Regulations and Accommodation Guidelines, Care Act 2014, Third Party Policy and offer practical assistance and advice with the relevant welfare benefit claim processes. Conduct financial assessments and annual reviews under the Council’s Charging Policies, by visit and through desk-based work, in accordance with defined legislation, procedures and timescales so that the Council may correctly charge for social services care packages. To maximise income for the local authority by advising, processing and monitoring of Deferred Payment Agreements as required for users of chargeable social care services as set out within the Councils’ Deferred Payment Policy scheme. Billing and collection of Council Tax has never been more important here at Woking and we have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic professional to join our Council Tax Team as a Revenue Officer on a permanent basis.
The Revenue Officer will be part of a team responsible for the billing, collection and recovery of Council Tax and Business Rates. You will be customer focused, empathetic but assertive and confident in communicating both verbally and in writing, in order to deliver successful outcomes for customers and for the Council.
The Team currently work on a rota basis which involves a combination of home and office working.
Reporting to the Revenues Team Leader, the Revenues Officer will support the Customer Service team by providing advice and support for Council Tax and Business Rates queries. The role will also help to maintain our records so that we can issue bills promptly and accurately. This will include:
· Setting up new accounts and closing old accounts
· Granting exemptions and discounts
· Taking payments
· Answering both written and verbal enquiries
· Assisting in activities relating to the billing and collection of Council Tax and Business Rates
The successful applicant will be flexible, adaptable and possess the ability to learn complex legislation. Previous experience of working within a Revenues/Customer Service environment is desirable although not essential, as full training is provided. You will be working from the office primarily to ensure you are supported into the role, until you have the skills and confidence to work independently.
