Are you looking for a new career opportunity within a fast-developing, forward-thinking, and ambitious organisation with a strong commercial focus?
We’re seeking an organised and enforcement-led professional to join our team as a Dog Warden. In this role, you will play a key part in delivering a high-quality service aligned with the goals of our 5-year plan. By bringing innovation, flexibility, and a positive attitude, you’ll help ensure the dog warden service remains cost-neutral to the Council while enhancing service standards.
We have embraced agile working practices and invested in technology that supports creativity and productivity, shaped by the evolving needs of our workforce following the COVID-19 pandemic.
About the Role
You will be responsible for:
- Picking up stray and lost dogs, reuniting them with their owners, and completing associated records and paperwork.
- Investigating dog fouling complaints and carrying out enforcement duties under relevant legislation.
- Liaising with external agencies including the RSPCA, Surrey Police, vets, and housing providers such as Raven Housing Trust.
- Maintaining accurate, up-to-date records.
A good working knowledge of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 – Section 149 (Seizure of stray dogs) is desirable, but not essential.
About You
We’re looking for someone who:
- Is confident around all types of dogs and comfortable working with the public.
- Is self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Has working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ideally, is familiar with the borough’s parks and open spaces.
- Holds a full manual UK driving licence.
- Has the right to work in the UK and a good standard of spoken and written English.
Experience with dog-related legislation and previous experience in a similar enforcement role would be beneficial, though training and support will be provided for the right candidate.
What We Offer:
In return for your expertise, dedication, and enthusiasm, we offer:
- Support for your personal and professional development.
- Competitive annual leave.
- 15% employer contribution to the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
- Access to a wide range of staff benefits, including discounts with local and high street retailers, a cycle-to-work scheme, and discounted Better leisure centre membership.
If you’re ready to take on a rewarding challenge in a role that makes a real difference, we’d love to hear from you.
For an informal discussion about the role, please call Clare Sawyer, Enforcement Manager on 01737 276610.
