Data Protection Coordinator
Location of work: Town Hall, Reigate/Hybrid working
Salary: £30,009 - £31,347 pro rata
Basis: Permanent, Part time – 24 hours per week
About the Role
As a Data Protection Coordinator for Reigate & Banstead Borough Council you will play a crucial role in supporting the Data Protection Officer (DPO) in ensuring compliance with data protection regulations, particularly GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and the Data Protection Act 2018. You will be responsible for assisting in the implementation and maintenance of data protection policies, managing data subject requests, conducting assessments, and supporting various compliance-related activities.
This role will work closely with the other Data Protection Coordinator as part of a job share. This role will be expected to work independently and have the confidence to use initiative and knowledge to carry out essential tasks. This ideal candidate will have knowledge of Freedom of Information Requests (FOIs) to be able to support as required and have a particular are of strength when processing Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), as this role will be responsible for conducting of DPIAs for new projects, systems.
About the Person
- Good understanding of data protection laws and regulations, particularly GDPR, and their practical implications for organisations.
- Proven experience in data protection compliance, preferably in a public sector or regulatory environment.
- Proven knowledge of data protection legislation and General Data Protection Regulation., along with FOI and EIR (Environmental Information Regulation).
- Have an appreciation of data protection issues and a proactive work ethic to ensure knowledge is always up-to-date, and work with discretion in the handling of sensitive personal data ensuring that information is handled appropriately.
- Have an ability to prioritise effectively and organise own workload and using own initiative where appropriate.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders.
