Do you have the leadership skills, technical expertise and drive to lead a high-performing vehicle workshop?

We're looking for an experienced Workshop Manager to oversee the day-to-day operation of our busy vehicle workshop and MOT testing facility, leading a skilled team to deliver a safe, efficient and compliant service.

This is a fantastic opportunity to take on a key leadership role, ensuring our fleet remains reliable, compliant and ready to support the essential services that local communities rely on every day.

Working closely with colleagues, operational teams, suppliers and regulatory bodies, you will play a vital role in delivering a high-performing fleet service. You will lead the planning and delivery of scheduled and preventative maintenance programmes, ensuring defects are identified and resolved promptly, resources are managed effectively, and vehicles remain roadworthy and operational.

Your leadership will help drive continuous improvement and excellent customer service, ensuring the fleet is ready to support essential services across the borough whenever and wherever it is needed.

About the role
As Workshop Manager, you will be responsible for the Council's vehicle workshop and Class 4, 5 and 7 MOT testing centre.

Reporting to the Fleet Services Manager, you will oversee planned preventative maintenance programmes, manage and develop a skilled team, and ensure compliance with DVSA standards and Operator Licence requirements.

You will drive high standards in health and safety, quality assurance and operational performance, while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and service delivery. This is a varied and rewarding role where your leadership will have a direct impact on keeping the Council's fleet moving and supporting frontline services that make a difference to our communities every day.

About you
We are looking for someone with:
  • Significant experience in a transport, fleet or vehicle maintenance environment.
  • Proven leadership and people management experience, including the supervision, development and motivation of technical teams.
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance legislation, DVSA requirements, compliance standards and workshop operations.
  • Experience of managing planned maintenance programmes, quality assurance processes and health and safety systems.
  • Excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high standards.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement, customer service excellence and safe, effective service delivery.

If you're ready to lead a critical frontline service, develop a skilled team and play a key role in keeping the Council's fleet safe, compliant and operational, we'd love to hear from you.
