Welfare Officer
What will you be doing?
Are you passionate about supporting people, building trust, and delivering meaningful frontline services? Do you want a role where your work directly improves lives and strengthens communities?
At Kent County Council, we’re looking for Welfare Officers to join our Gypsy, Roma and Traveller (GRT) Resident Service—a unique and rewarding opportunity to work at the heart of our communities, supporting residents across our sites. Preferably, this role will be delivered over 3 days, working 5 hours per day.
This is not your typical office-based job. As a Welfare Officer, you will spend time out on our sites, building relationships, understanding individuals’ needs, and providing support to residents. Your role will be varied and engaging, with every day bringing new challenges and opportunities to make a meaningful impact.
You will play a vital role in delivering a proactive frontline service, leading on Unauthorised Encampment liaison and monitoring site conditions. Duties also include asset inspections and water readings, ensuring that our sites are maintained to the highest standards.
This role is entirely focused on people—listening, supporting, and acting with professionalism, empathy, and integrity. As a service, we value compassion, professionalism, and fairness. If you thrive in a people-focused, hands-on role, we would love to hear from you.
This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
