Warm Safe Homes Officer
Team
About the role
We are looking for a proactive and enthusiastic Warm Safe Homes Officer to join Bury Council's Home Improvement Team. This is an exciting opportunity to make a tangible difference to residents' lives by helping people access funding, advice and practical support to live in warmer, safer and healthier homes.
Initially, the role will focus on community engagement and promotion of the Warm Homes Local Grant, raising awareness of the scheme and identifying eligible households through outreach activities, partnership working and targeted engagement within local communities. The successful candidate will play a key role in helping the Council deliver its commitments under externally funded energy efficiency programmes, ensuring residents are supported to access available assistance.
As workloads and service priorities evolve, the postholder will also support the wider work of the Home Improvement Team, including the delivery of other energy efficiency grant schemes, Disabled Facilities Grants and minor adaptations. This provides an excellent opportunity to develop a broad understanding of housing assistance services and contribute to improving outcomes for vulnerable residents.
Reporting to the Unit Manager (Home Improvement), you will work within a small, experienced and supportive team. While the post has no direct line management responsibility, it requires close collaboration with residents, contractors, occupational therapists, health and social care professionals, community organisations and other partner agencies.
Based at Knowsley Place, Bury, the role combines office working, home visits and community-based outreach across the borough. The ability to travel independently throughout Bury is therefore essential.
We are looking for someone who can work confidently on their own initiative, manage a varied caseload and balance multiple priorities effectively. The successful candidate will possess strong project management and case management skills, excellent communication and organisational abilities, and a genuine commitment to improving residents' quality of life. Experience of community engagement, customer-facing services, housing, energy efficiency, grant-funded programmes or supporting vulnerable households would be particularly advantageous.
This role would suit an individual who enjoys building relationships, solving problems, managing projects from initial enquiry through to completion, and delivering practical solutions that make a real difference to local communities.
Normal hours of work are 37 hours per week based around the usual business working week. Dependent on service requirements, you may be required to work on a rota basis.
