    Our Travel Assistance Service is a cornerstone of support for children and adults across the borough. We’re now seeking a passionate and experienced Travel Assistance Manager to lead our dedicated team and help shape the future of this vital service.

    About the Role

    As Travel Assistance Manager, you will:

    • Lead and manage a team of Passenger Assistants and drivers.
    • Coordinate travel assistance for children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), ensuring safe, legal, and reliable transport between home and school or college
    • Oversee adult transport to day care services
    • Ensure full compliance with legal policies and statutory guidance, including DfE guidelines and Section 508B of the Education Act 1996.
    • Monitor and check vehicle compliance, ensuring all transport meets safety and regulatory standards
    • Respond to enquiries and complaints with professionalism and empathy
    • Manage staff issues, including performance, conduct, and rota cover for sickness or absence
    • Handle challenging conversations and resolve conflicts effectively
    • Input and manage accurate data across digital systems
    • Maintain attention to detail in all aspects of service delivery

    What We’re Looking For

    We’re looking for someone who:

    • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a confident and compassionate approach
    • Brings proven experience in operational service management and team leadership
    • Demonstrates strong knowledge of transport legislation, especially relating to SEND and statutory duties
    • Understands the legal framework for transporting children with SEND and can ensure full compliance with relevant policies
    • Possesses excellent IT skills, with the ability to use digital systems for data input, performance monitoring, and service coordination
    • Is highly organised, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities
    • Is proactive, solution-focused, and confident in managing conflict and challenging conversations
