About the team

The SEN Transport team is part of the Admissions and Transport Service. Officers work closely with some of Hertfordshire’s most vulnerable young people and their families, schools, colleges and internal & external partners to individually assess applications for transport for children and young people (up to the age of 25) with Education Health Care Plans (EHCP).

The role requires working with an individual caseload within a cohesive and supportive team. Requirements include the ability to work well under pressure, work within tight deadlines, the ability to interpret and implement transport policies successfully and consistently, and excellent written and oral communication skills.

The role also includes regular contact with schools, parents and other professionals and working closely with the Contracts Management team who are responsible for arranging the transport contracts.

About the role

You will work with your own caseload/area, assessing home to school transport eligibility. Regular conversations with families and internal and external teams are required.

The role requires excellent customer service and the ability to work consistently to a high standard.

Confidence in advising on phones is needed and a competence in using Microsoft packages, and familiarity with IT.

You can make a real difference to young people with an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) in helping them to access education whilst following Home to School policies.

About you

Essential:

  • Excellent communication skills to be able to support and advise parents/carers, as well as to work with a wide variety of professionals and other agencies.
  • Demonstrable skills in dealing with complex queries
  • Evidence of working successfully within a team.
  • Organised, methodical, and able to manage and prioritise your own workload, while supporting colleagues and remaining calm under pressure and meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Competent with ICT packages e.g., word processing, spreadsheet, databases, and email, able to produce accurate reports and statistical information. Good level of numeracy.
  • Educated to A Level or equivalent, with a minimum GCSE Grade C in English and Maths or be able to demonstrate equivalent level of achievement through work.

Desirable:

  • Demonstrable skills in analysis, problem solving and research to achieve realistic solutions whilst remaining within policy.
  • Evidence of working with families and young people with SEND
  • Able to travel to Stevenage
