Trainee ICT Support Technician (8/407) (Fixed Term)

Dumfries

Band 3 £26,187 - £26,637

We are seeking a motivated and customer-focused Trainee ICT Support Technician to join our ICT & Digital team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to start a career in Information and Communications Technology within Dumfries and Galloway Council.

As part of a dedicated technical team, you will receive training and support while helping to deliver reliable, secure and effective digital services across the Council.

Working alongside experienced ICT professionals, you will assist in providing first-line ICT support to users across the Council, helping to maintain desktop devices, laptops, mobile devices, software applications, networks, cyber security controls and Microsoft 365 services.

You will gain practical experience supporting a wide range of technologies, assisting with the installation and maintenance of ICT equipment, resolving technical issues, and contributing to service improvement and digital transformation initiatives. Throughout your training, you will develop valuable technical, customer service and problem-solving skills while supporting staff and stakeholders across the organisation

The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues across ICT & Digital and Council services, learning how to diagnose and resolve technical issues, provide excellent customer support and contribute to the delivery of high-quality digital services.

About You

  • Educated to SCQF Level 5 (National 5, Intermediate 2, Standard Grade Credit Level) or equivalent, with passes in relevant subjects such as Computing Science, Information Technology, Digital Technologies or related disciplines.
  • An interest in Information and Communications Technology and a desire to develop a career within the ICT profession.
  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware, software applications, Microsoft Windows and Microsoft 365.
  • An awareness of digital technologies, networking concepts and cyber security principles.
  • Good problem-solving skills with the ability to approach tasks in a logical and methodical manner.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and customers.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and develop technical knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently when required.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • A positive attitude and commitment to delivering excellent customer service.

Requirements

This post is subject to candidate vetting through Disclosure Scotland.

A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.

This post is fixed term for up to 18 months.
