About the role:
This is an exciting opportunity for a positive and enthusiastic individual to join our motivated and knowledgeable Waste & Street Scene Team. The team is responsible for managing the waste management contracts which include household bin collections and street cleansing services.
If successful you will be required to monitor the waste management contracts and activities and take corrective action where appropriate, including the issue and processing of rectification and default notices in accordance with the waste management contracts.
The role will also involve monitoring Health & Safety of the services and depot locations, to ensure the waste contractors are operating safely and adhering to specified guidelines.
Deal with environmental enforcement activities throughout the district, i.e. to tackle the problems associated with smoking related litter and chewing gum, this may include issues such as fly tipping, litter, highway obstacles etc.
The successful applicant will also provide support to reduce the amount of contamination in household bins by working with the waste contractor and the public to provide education and guidance.
This is a field-based role which involves liaising with contractors, Council staff and residents alike to ensure a high quality of service is delivered and we are seeking someone with experience of working in a similar position.
About you:
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a good working knowledge of contract monitoring and health and safety in the waste and recycling sector. You will need to be able to work independently with confidence and be happy travelling locally and meeting people.
You will have an eye for detail and have a genuine commitment to maintaining and improving standards in the Council’s waste management services across the District.
In addition, good communication, administration, IT skills and attention to detail are required. It is essential to be able to drive and have a current UK driving licence.
The primary role of the successful applicant will be to travel the district monitoring the waste management and street cleansing services to ensure they conform to the required Health & Safety standards and the service standards set out in the contract specification.
Knowledge and experience of enforcement procedures is desirable.
The successful applicant will also liaise with customers; providing information and guidance in the use of the recycling collection services and reducing contamination and minimising waste.
