Objective of Role
Are you an experienced and practical individual looking for an opportunity to make a visible impact on the local environment?
As a Sign Maker, you will play an important role in helping to keep Richmond and Wandsworth's roads, highways and public spaces safe, accessible and well maintained. You will manufacture, prepare and install a wide range of highway, traffic and street signs that support residents, businesses and visitors across both boroughs.
You will be part of a busy and professional team responsible for delivering high-quality signage solutions and maintaining the street environment. Working closely with colleagues across Street Environment, Network Management, Traffic and Engineering, Planning, Housing and Parking services, you will contribute to identifying and resolving issues that affect the public realm and help ensure our communities remain safe and well connected.
About the Role
As a Sign Maker, you will manufacture, prepare and install a wide range of traffic and street signs, ensuring all work meets quality, safety and regulatory standards. You will use specialist tools and machinery, read plans and work orders, and work closely with colleagues across council services to support street environment improvements.
Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Experience of manufacturing and installing signs using industry-recognised materials.
Knowledge of safe working practices and commitment to maintaining high health and safety standards and an Understanding of traffic sign preparation and installation, including the Traffic Sign
Machinery- Ability to undertake manual handling duties, including lifting and moving materials and equipment.
Communication- Strong communication skills and the ability to follow instructions accurately.
Manual Handling- Ability to undertake manual handling duties, including lifting and moving materials and equipment.
Understanding of traffic sign preparation and installation, including the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions (TSRGD) 2016 and Traffic Signs Manual requirements.
