Hackney is one of the most dynamic and progressive local authorities in the UK. We are a resilient, vibrant, and creative borough in the heart of London, with strong, diverse communities and a powerful set of shared values.

Over the past twenty years, the Council has built up first-class services, outstanding public infrastructure, and a reputation for excellence, innovation, and ambition. We are leading the way on essential work such as our fight for equity in Hackney with a particular focus on becoming an actively anti-racist borough. But the work doesn’t stop there, we are proactive in our approach to bringing fairness to all aspects of life including gender, neurodiversity and across the poverty divide.

Operating across Provided Services sites using a Campus Model—including Extra Care, Oswald Street Day Opportunities, Shared Lives, and Reablement Assessment Flats.

About the Role

Hackney Council is looking for three enthusiastic and skilled Service Support Officers to join our Provided Services team. Operating under an innovative Campus Model approach, you will work flexibly across multiple sites and teams including Extra Care schemes, Oswald Street Day Opportunities, Shared Lives, and Reablement Assessment Flats. This collaborative approach removes isolated working practices, ensuring administrative responsibilities are shared fairly and seamlessly across provided services.

Through comprehensive, efficient, and confidential back-office support, you will play a crucial role in enabling smooth service delivery for adults with varied and complex needs. Your daily work will support Care Quality Commission (CQC) compliance, maintain accurate record-keeping, and align with National Autistic Society standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage front-of-house reception at Oswald Street Day Opportunities on a rota basis, welcoming service users, carers, and visitors with dignity and respect.
  • Coordinate administrative functions for the Extra Care Panel by managing daily referrals, tracking void data, and securely distributing sensitive case documentation.
  • Provide general office support across Provided Services, including handling phone queries, taking messages, carrying out ad-hoc tasks, and assisting registered managers with meeting minutes and electronic filing systems.
  • Conduct routine PPE audits across Extra Care and Reablement Assessment Flats to maintain health and safety compliance.
  • Process financial information such as purchase orders and supplier invoices, and collaborate with agencies to manage and approve staff hours.
  • Support administrative needs for service training programs like PROACT-SCIPr while strictly adhering to Data Protection Act guidelines and safeguarding protocols.

About You

We are seeking adaptable individuals with exceptional organisational skills, high emotional intelligence, and a proactive attitude in a fast-paced Adult Social Care setting.

Key Accountabilities:

Essential Requirements & Qualifications

  • Candidates should hold an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Business Administration, or possess demonstrably equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong IT proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), and information management systems is essential, along with the ability to quickly learn new software platforms.
  • You must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact professionally with service users, families, internal officers, and external agencies.
  • We require strong workload prioritisation skills, enabling you to work effectively under pressure, handle competing priorities, meet tight deadlines, and maintain thorough attention to detail.
  • A personal commitment to equity, anti-racist practice, and delivering customer-focused support that upholds service user dignity and choice is required.
  • An understanding of the needs of older adults and individuals with long-term conditions, learning disabilities, dementia, physical disabilities, or autism is highly desirable.

We are also working towards our vision, which is to be a place for everyone; where residents and staff can be proud. In order to achieve this, we are seeking individuals who embody our "PROUD" values: Purpose and Respect, where we foster belonging through active inclusion, kindness, and open dialogue; Ownership, where we champion proactive collaboration and accountability for our shared success; and Unity and Diversity, where we work as one Council to break down silos and champion anti-racist behavior.

Hackney Council works to eradicate discrimination on the basis of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation. We also recognise that people can be disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances, so we will also work to eliminate discrimination and disadvantage caused by social class. We also welcome those interested in flexible working. We particularly welcome applications from disabled people, as this group is currently under represented in our workforce.

The Council has a dedicated employment support service (Hackney Works), which offers Hackney residents guidance in relation to applying for jobs. If you are thinking about applying for a job, please contact the Hackney Works team to find out what support is available: hackneyworks@hackney.gov.uk
