We’re a close-knit team of 8 Service and Maintenance Technicians, supported by a Senior Manager and our Technical Operations Officer. Together, we work across departments within Herts Equipment Service to deliver a top-notch experience for our clients and their families. Everyone plays a part in making things run smoothly, and we’re proud of the service we provide.

About the role
We’re on the lookout for a Service and Maintenance Technician to join our team. In this hands-on role, you’ll be servicing, maintaining, and repairing a variety of daily living aids, non-stock items, and medical equipment. You’ll be working both in clients’ homes and at our workshop in Mundells, Welwyn Garden City.
Some of the equipment can be bulky, and you’ll need to be comfortable lifting items upstairs when needed. It’s a varied role where no two days are the same—and you’ll be making a real difference to people’s lives.
Once fully trained, you'll join a rota to provide support outside standard hours:
- Weekdays: 5pm–10pm
- Weekends & Bank Holidays: 9am–10pm
This is in addition to your regular duties and includes a premium rate when on call.
About you
Essential Skills
- Valid Full UK Manual Driving Licence
Confident and capable of driving manual vehicles across various locations. - Strong Mechanical Background
Demonstrated experience in mechanical work, with a solid understanding of tools, systems, and problem solving skills. - Exceptional Attention to Detail
A meticulous approach to tasks, ensuring high standards and accuracy in all aspects of the role. - Excellent Customer Service Skills
Friendly, professional, and responsive when dealing with clients and colleagues. - Clear Communication Skills
Strong verbal and written abilities, enabling effective interaction and documentation. - Willingness to Participate in Out-of-Hours Cover

Desirable:
- Background in Health and Social Care
You’ve worked in or have solid experience with health and social care settings, and understand the importance of supporting others. - Good Knowledge of Health & Safety Rules
You’re familiar with key regulations like MHRA and LOLER, and know how to keep things safe and compliant.
