
Senior Transport Planner
We’re looking for a Senior Transport Planner to join our Strategic Transport team and play a key role in developing and delivering our Local Transport Plan and wider transport strategy.

About the role
You’ll lead strategic projects, manage consultants and budgets, and play a key role in delivering the Local Transport Plan. This is a fantastic opportunity to influence sustainable transport solutions and work collaboratively across the council and with external partners.
As a Senior Transport Planner, you will:
- Lead and support the development of Reading’s Local Transport Plan.
- Manage a range of transport projects and oversee consultants.
- Prepare reports, project briefs, and funding bids.
- Analyse transport trends and data to inform decision-making
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including government departments and the Berkshire Local Transport Body.
- Monitor budgets ranging from £100k to £500k.
- Attend and present at meetings, including briefings with Lead Councillors.
This is a dynamic role that combines strategic thinking, project management, and stakeholder engagement to improve transport across the borough.

We’re looking for someone with:
- A relevant degree and/or eligibility for membership of a professional institution.
- Proven experience in transport planning or strategy
- Substantial experience in transport planning and project management.
- Strong report writing, presentation, and communication skills.
- Political awareness and the ability to work corporately across departments.
- A proactive approach to customer care and equal opportunities.
You’ll also need to be comfortable attending occasional evening meetings and working flexibly to meet project demands.

Salary range
