
Senior Transport Officer-Travel Planning
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Senior Transport Officer – Travel Planning to join our Sustainable Travel Team within the Place Department. This is an exciting opportunity to shape and deliver initiatives that support Derbyshire’s transition to more sustainable and active travel choices.
About the Role
You will play a key role in promoting, developing and implementing our Modal Shift programme, working closely with schools, businesses, developers, council departments, external organisations, and wider regional partners.
Your work will support behaviour change, encourage sustainable travel choices, and contribute to strategic transport planning across Derbyshire and the East Midlands region.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, promote and monitor Travel Plans for schools, businesses, developers, and internal teams.
- Support and deliver sustainable travel behavioural change initiatives.
- Undertake and analyse travel surveys to inform policy and programme development.
- Provide expert advice to elected members, senior managers, developers, and partner organisations.
- Contribute to the development of the East Midlands Combined County Authority Joint Local Transport Plan.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across Sustainable Growth, Highways, Regeneration, and external bodies such as transport operators and Active Travel England.
- Help develop and promote communication campaigns on active and sustainable travel.
About You
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has experience developing and implementing travel plans or sustainable travel behaviour change initiatives.
- Understands sustainable travel modes and associated legislation.
- Can analyse complex issues and communicate clearly with a range of stakeholders.
- Is confident presenting to senior officers and elected members.
- Is proactive, organised, and able to manage a busy and varied workload.
- Works well in partnership and can build productive professional relationships.
Essential Qualifications
- A degree or postgraduate qualification in transport planning or a related field.
OR - An alternative relevant qualification plus substantial experience in school travel planning, employee travel planning, or behavioural change programmes.

Salary range
- £35,422 - £38,730 per year
