Job Description

Overview

The London Borough of Harrow is seeking a Senior Practitioner to join its Adult Social Care division. The postholder will provide expert advice and support to social workers and care managers on casework, alongside chairing professional meetings and case conferences. A key aspect of the role involves supporting the Team Manager by deputising in their absence and acting as Duty Manager when required. Responsibilities include recording decisions with rigour on the Mosaic database and leading complex enquiries while liaising with internal and external partners.

The successful candidate must demonstrate a proven ability to work with people with lived experiences, strictly adhering to the council’s Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion policies. You will be expected to complete Care Act and Mental Capacity assessments in a timely manner, displaying the ability to prioritise work under pressure and adapt to shifting demands.

All support plans must be strengths-based and reflect the expressed wishes of service users or their advocates. We are looking for a professional whose demeanour generates credibility and confidence among colleagues and stakeholders alike. Furthermore, you must show a strong commitment to continuous professional development and a willingness to acquire new skills in line with Social Work England expectations.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • Extensive knowledge of the legislation/policies that relate to the Adults agenda (details recorded on the role profile)
  • Significant experience in carrying out care management responsibilities in order to advise and guide less experienced staff.
  • Experience of working “on duty” in any social work setting.
  • Experience of presenting cases at meetings/panels.
  • Ability to write reports to a standard sufficient for them to be presented at internal and external forums.
  • Ability to present information about cases e.g. to a Adult Resource Panel or a Case Conference.
  • Qualified Social Worker (DipSW, CQSW or equivalent).
  • Ability to work occasional unsocial hours.
