Senior Licensing Officer

£40,444 – 43,149 per annum

We are looking for a Senior Licensing Officer to join our Licensing Team (based at the Council Offices in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire but with the roles being hybrid ones meaning that you will also be able to work from home). Ashfield is easily accessible by the A38 and M1, and by bus and by train, with Mansfield and Nottingham very close by.

The Licensing functions we cover relate to: Taxi Licensing, Licensing Act 2003 (alcohol, entertainment and late-night refreshment), Street Trading Consents, Scrap Metal Dealers, Charitable Collections, Pavement Licences, and Gambling Act 2005. You will work closely with the Licensing Manager.

Your role will be to carry out compliance checks and enforcement actions (on occasions this may may require you to work outside of normal working days and normal working hours and outside of the Ashfield District when assisting Licensing Teams from other Authorities) in relation to licences, permits and registrations. You will be required to take any necessary, appropriate and proportionate enforcement actions as required in relation to complaints received about licence holders or instances of non-compliance witnessed by Authorised Officers, and to take appropriate actions in relation to contentious licence applications.

You will also be required to assist your colleagues in the Licensing Team with the general day-to-day activities of the Service, including helping with licence applications, and general enquiries; and to assist with the overall knowledge and resilience building within the Licensing Team.

Knowledge of licensing legislation is essential, as is experience of working in a regulatory enforcement role. You will need to have both a regulatory and commercial attitude towards enforcement, in order to find solutions to matters that benefit all parties, enabling businesses to grow and adapt to an ever-changing world, whilst protecting the rights of local communities.

For an informal discussion, please contact Julian Alison, Licensing Manager: 07989 531419.
