Senior Energy Adviser
Job Introduction
Help Shape Lincolnshire's Energy Future
Lincolnshire County Council is seeking an exceptional strategic thinker to direct our work at the forefront of one of the UK's most significant energy opportunities.
This is not a traditional energy role.
We are looking for someone who can navigate the intersection of energy policy, major infrastructure, economic growth, political engagement and place-based investment. You will be helping Lincolnshire secure the maximum benefit from nationally significant developments in the UK's energy sector. The role has a particular focus on fusion energy but its purpose is much broader: helping ensure that energy infrastructure supports prosperity, investment, skills, business growth and sustainable development across Lincolnshire.
As our Senior Energy Adviser, you will become the Council's lead adviser on energy-related growth opportunities, working directly with senior officers, elected members, regional bodies government departments, investors, businesses, universities and national delivery bodies.
The Opportunity
The UK is entering a transformative period of energy investment.
From the development of fusion, fission and hydrogen energy through the Trent Supercluster programme , to wider debates around energy security, electricity capacity, industrial decarbonisation and infrastructure delivery, the energy landscape is evolving rapidly and Lincolnshire has a role as a county well known for ‘defending, feeding and powering the nation’.
You will monitor and assess national policy developments, identify opportunities and risks for Lincolnshire, influence decision-makers, build partnerships and collaborations and develop interventions that create long-term economic value for our communities and businesses.
Success in this role will mean helping Lincolnshire secure investment, infrastructure, jobs, skills development and supply chain opportunities whilst ensuring elected members and senior leaders have clear, evidence-based advice to make informed decisions in a fast- paced environment.
What You'll Be Doing
- Acting as Lincolnshire County Council's lead adviser on strategic energy developments.
- Monitoring and interpreting developments in UK energy policy, including nuclear, fusion, hydrogen, electricity infrastructure and industrial energy systems.
- Providing advice and briefing senior politicians, executive officers and key stakeholders.
- Building relationships across government departments, local authorities, industry, investors, universities and delivery agencies.
- Identifying economic growth opportunities arising from major energy investments and translating them into practical programmes and projects.
- Developing compelling business cases for infrastructure and economic development initiatives.
- Supporting the development of skills, workforce and training solutions that prepare Lincolnshire residents for future opportunities.
- Ensuring local businesses are positioned to access emerging supply chain opportunities.
- Balancing opportunities with risks and providing evidence-based assessment to support decision-making.
About You
We're more interested in your ability to operate strategically than your experience of any single technology or programme.
Whilst knowledge of the nuclear sector is welcomed, we are equally interested in applications from candidates with strong experience in energy policy, infrastructure, economic development, public policy, major projects or government relations. We recognise that the skills needed to succeed in this role may have been developed across a range of sectors.
Most importantly, you'll be someone who can assimilate complex issues and translate them into clear strategic advice and action.
You'll be able to demonstrate:
- Experience working with senior stakeholders across the public and private sectors.
- Experience influencing decision-makers and building effective partnerships.
- Experience developing business cases, investment propositions or economic development projects.
- The ability to analyse complex information and communicate it clearly to different audiences.
- Strong political awareness and an understanding of how policy, investment and public decision making interact.
