Barnsley Council is seeking a committed and proactive Safeguarding Officer to support the work of the Barnsley Safeguarding Adults Board, working to the Strategic Safeguarding Partnership Manager. This is a pivotal role working alongside statutory safeguarding partners to ensure that adults at risk across Barnsley are protected through effective, collaborative safeguarding arrangements.
You will contribute to the delivery of the Barnsley Safeguarding Adults Board’s priorities, support governance and professional practice, and ensure that the voice of adults at risk is central to all safeguarding activity.
Key Responsibilities:
· Work closely with the Strategic Safeguarding Partnership Manager and Board Chair to ensure effective governance and oversight.
- Play a lead role in developing and establishing the organisation’s approach to safeguarding adults and in maintaining and reviewing the organisation’s implementation plan for safeguarding adults in line with current legislation and best practice.
- Contributing to policy review, helping with data collection and analysis
- Monitor national and local safeguarding developments and ensure the Board’s work reflects current legislation and best practice.
- Coordinate Safeguarding Adults Reviews (SARs), monitor progress, and design and deliver learning events and evaluate the impact of learning on practice
· Facilitate multi-agency working and support Board subgroups and task-and-finish groups to deliver the strategic plan.
- Collate and analyse safeguarding data to support performance monitoring and strategic planning.
- Contribute to the production of the Board’s annual report, business plan, newsletters and webpage.
- Undertake research to inform evidence-based decision-making and share best practice.
About You:
- Experience in safeguarding or partnership working within adult social care, health, or related sectors.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation, policy, and best practice.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively across agencies.
- Commitment to promoting the voice and rights of adults at risk.

Salary range
- £35,412 - £38,220 per year
