Roadworks Supervisor

Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the in-house Highways Team based at the Beverley Depot. The team is responsible for delivering essential day-to-day highway maintenance services across the East Riding, helping to keep the network safe, accessible and well maintained for residents, businesses and visitors.

We are looking for a reliable, motivated and engaging individual to join our successful and hardworking team. The successful candidate will play a key role in supervising and coordinating a wide range of highway maintenance and construction activities, ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

The role involves overseeing the delivery of projects including highway patching and resurfacing works, drainage repairs and improvements, footway and paving maintenance, kerbing, general highway construction, surface dressing operations and other essential maintenance activities across the county. You will be responsible for leading operational teams on site, monitoring performance, ensuring compliance with specifications, and maintaining high standards of workmanship and customer service.

Applicants should have a proven track record within the highways maintenance, civil engineering or construction industry, together with the ability to lead and motivate others. You will possess a proactive and forward-thinking approach, with a commitment to continuous improvement and delivering quality services for highway users. Experience supervising teams, organising workloads and coordinating resources is essential.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for the completion and management of key operational documentation, including risk assessments, site records, work allocation sheets and other statutory paperwork. A sound understanding of health and safety requirements is essential, ensuring all works are undertaken in compliance with current legislation, industry standards and council procedures.

A full, clean driving licence is required, preferably with Category C1 entitlement. Applicants should be able to demonstrate good communication and organisational skills, along with the ability to effectively manage changing priorities and respond to operational demands.

A NRSWA Supervisor Accreditation is desirable, together with knowledge and practical experience of construction and highway-related health and safety legislation. Familiarity with traffic management requirements, safe systems of work and the supervision of highway maintenance activities would be advantageous.

The position is based on a standard 37-hour working week, Monday to Friday. However, the nature of highway maintenance means there will be opportunities and expectations to undertake overtime, emergency call-outs and seasonal operational work as required.

The Highways Team has a strong "can-do" culture and takes pride in delivering high-quality services that make a visible difference to the local community. We are committed to supporting our employees through ongoing training, professional development and career progression opportunities. Successful applicants will receive comprehensive health and safety training, support in developing technical skills and access to a wide range of learning opportunities to help them achieve their full potential.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual looking to develop their career within a busy and rewarding highways maintenance environment while contributing to the upkeep and improvement of the East Riding's highway network.
