Roles are either ‘site based’ or ‘home based’.

Site based roles are mainly based at the workplace, with the option to work from home for up to two days a week, depending on service needs.

Home based roles are mainly based at home, with the expectation of attending the workplace up to one day a week.

The working arrangement for each role is set by the manager, based on service requirements.

Job Introduction

We’re recruiting a Revenues Advisor to join our Revenues and Benefits team at Milton Keynes City Council.

As a Revenues Advisor, you'll play an important role in helping residents, businesses and customers access accurate information and support relating to Council Tax and Business Rates.

Every day, you'll help customers resolve enquiries, update records, establish liability and provide advice that makes a real difference to people across Milton Keynes.

This role may be suitable for home working, following an assessment. Home‑based roles require a minimum of one day per week working from the office or site.

Role Responsibilities
  • Deal with customer enquiries relating to Council Tax and Business Rates by telephone, in writing and face to face.
  • Investigate enquiries, establish liability and work with customers to resolve issues wherever possible.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on Council Tax and Business Rates systems.
  • Identify customers who may need additional support and signpost them to appropriate debt management or advice services.
  • Support Team Leaders in achieving service standards, targets and performance measures, while working collaboratively with colleagues and partners.
  • Assist with customer enquiries at the Magistrates Court when required, helping to resolve issues before hearings take place.
Ideal Candidate
  • GCSE English and Mathematics at grade A-C, grade 4-9, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Experience of working in Council Tax and Business Rates administration, or within a similar customer-focused role.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office applications and other computer-based systems.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, influencing and negotiation skills, with a commitment to excellent customer service.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities, organise workloads effectively and adapt positively in a busy environment.
  • Experience working with numbers and financial calculations, with the ability to investigate problems, handle sensitive information and exercise sound professional judgement.

Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks

If you’re offered the role, you’ll be subject to Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks as part of our pre‑employment process.These checks include a Basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and verification of your employment history for the past three years, including confirmation through employment references for this time period.About The Organisation
