Job introduction
Job title: Researcher (Conferences, Meetings and Events)
A bit about us:
Liverpool City Region Destination Partnership (LCRDP) is the Local Visitor Economy Partnership (LVEP) for Liverpool City Region. Owned by Liverpool City Council and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, LCRDP leads the promotion of the City Region as a destination to attract visitors.
Working with partners across business, academia, culture and communities, we champion Liverpool City Region as a leading place to live, work, visit, meet, invest and study. The City Region is internationally recognised for its sector expertise, innovation and strong track record of hosting high-impact business events.
Liverpool Convention Bureau, part of LCRDP, leads on attracting national and international conferences, and meetings and events which drive economic growth, profile and deliver long-term legacy for the City Region.
The Accommodation BID (ABID) supports Liverpool’s business events through targeted subvention, underpinning our ambitions to grow the number of conferences hosted in the city and directly funding this Researcher post.
We are now looking for a Researcher (Conferences, Meetings & Events) to join the Liverpool Convention Bureau team which will play a key role in growing Liverpool’s business events pipeline.
The role:
As Researcher, you will lead the targeted activity that underpins Liverpool Convention Bureau’s business events strategy. Your work will focus on identifying and developing a strong pipeline of high-value national and international conference opportunities, aligned with the City Region’s sector strengths, academic excellence and cluster growth areas. This role supports the delivery of strategic objectives and commercial targets set out in the Destination Management Plan and aims to strengthen Liverpool’s position in the business events market by securing conference business that delivers clear benefits for city accommodation providers.
Working closely with the International Bidding Manager and supporting the Club Liverpool Ambassador Programme, you will help ensure a robust, insight-led pipeline of opportunities that drives sustainable growth and long-term impact across the City Region.
This is a proactive, research-led role combining market intelligence, data analysis and relationship-building. You will identify new leads, support bid development, and engage with universities, businesses, medical institutions and industry partners to help attract national and international business events to Liverpool.
- The key responsibilities of the role are listed below:
- Lead targeted research activity to identify and grow a strong pipeline of conference opportunities, (typically 300–500 delegates) aligned with ABID priorities, City Region sector strengths and growth clusters
- Identify, qualify and track high-value conference leads to ensure opportunities meet strategic and commercial objectives
- Build and maintain an accurate and continuous pipeline of opportunities, initiatives and sector intelligence using CRM systems
- Support the International Bidding Manager with high-quality research, market insight, sector analysis and ambassador identification to strengthen bid submissions
- Research and target national and international associations, generating new high-quality leads with potential for growth, repeat business and multi-year hosting opportunities
- Support the development of the Club Liverpool Ambassador Programme by identifying and engaging potential ambassadors across academic, medical and industry sectors
- Build effective relationships with universities, research centres, industry bodies and cluster organisations to uncover aligned bidding opportunities
- Support bid activity, including the preparation of submissions, and contribute to site inspections and familiarisation visits where required
- Monitor trends, investment activity and sector developments to identify future opportunities for the City Region
- Produce regular reports and maintain accurate CRM data in line with UK GDPR requirements
- Contribute to the delivery of the Destination Management Plan and wider visitor economy objectives.
This role is fixed term for the purpose of being funded by ABID and will end in May 2027.
Our offer to you:
- At least 27 days holiday, plus bank holidays rising to 32 after 5 years’ service (pro rata if part time) - option to purchase further days
- Agile working (role dependent) - a “Flexibility First” approach to agile working, where flexibility is the norm rather than the exception
