We provide Marriage and Civil Partnership ceremonies for any customers wishing to hold their ceremony in Hertfordshire. New citizens who have chosen to hold their Citizenship ceremony in Hertfordshire are welcome to book either a private or group ceremony with us.

The role of a Registrar is critical in ensuring that life events are registered accurately and in accordance with statutory requirements. Registrars are responsible for maintaining precise records and applying complex legislation, regulations and procedures with a high degree of accuracy and professionalism.

The role also includes taking notices of marriage and civil partnership for ceremonies taking place both in the UK and overseas. As such, Registrars must develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the relevant legislation and be able to apply it correctly to a wide range of individual circumstances, ensuring that customers receive accurate advice and guidance at all times.

The Stevenage team currently has the whole time equivalent of four registration officers, a senior registrar and a registration manager, the team is supported by the equivalent of a full time support officer.

About the role

The successful candidate will be expected to be responsible for the effective and accurate registration of life events adhering to complex legislation and procedure. The applicant will have responsibility for accurate accounting, responsibility for the audit and completion of stock control. The successful candidate will conduct civil partnership, marriage (both opposite sex and same sex) and citizenship ceremonies in various locations.

Registration and Citizenship Officers can expect a varied and fast-paced day, with a diary that is largely made up of back-to-back public appointments. As the service covers a wide range of life events, officers regularly move from one appointment to the next, supporting customers in very different circumstances and emotional situations. One appointment may involve celebrating a birth or citizenship, while the next could involve supporting someone through the registration of a death. The successful candidate will need to adapt quickly, maintaining professionalism, empathy and accuracy throughout the day.
